I stopped today, Easter morning. Needed a couple of loaves for dinner. It smells so good in there, bread was hot. I bought a 3rd loaf , went home, and immediately made italian toast. Great way to start the day.

Our family is from Syracuse, NY since late-1800's. Family first laid sewage pipes during the growth of this city, the rest worked trades in stone, plumbing, electrical and later in the Civil Services, all were WWII or Korea military service. You can not be more Syracuse NY then Columbus Bakery. There is honor in that family and a dedication. Never knew a table setting without Columbus ingredients surround us.

If you like bread, and no I don't mean that boring, stale PB&J sandwich kind of bread, I mean REAL, homemade, delicious, satisfying, soft, and scrumptious bread...If so, then this is where you need to go! The experience felt like stepping back in time when perfecting your craft and selling a quality product meant something to the Owners and staff. We ended up buying two loaves and my mouth was watering the whole drive home. We will DEFINITELY share the news about this place with everyone you know.

These folks are Number 1 Visited here on the strong advice from a friend and, after we found it (GPS takes you around the block), parked in front, walked inside an old school, old charm bakery with nothing but Italian loafs and flour everywhere. Nothing fancy here and that's ok because they have the best breads of all. Worth the drive, zero parking but out front works just fine. Highly recommended

Let me get right to the point: 1). Columbus Baking Company proves that what people call an "institution" can be arguable. Attica is an institution that's been around longer than Columbus, and they probably bake better bread, too. 2). Italian bread as authentic as Prego, Chef Boyardee, or Ragu. Soft crust. 100% enriched white flour. No bite and no flavor. 3). Yes, it's a fun bakery to visit. Once. Then, you realize that for all the "tradition" and remembrances that Columbus Baking presents, it's still pretty crappy bread, albeit in a throwback setting. Syracuse Italian bread is not quite what you get in Italy. Not even the Bronx or Brooklyn, for that matter. But, there are other bakeries that add something that Columbus is missing; flavor. Try Lyncourt bakery, for one, for a truly good tasting Upstate style Italian bread.

It's got the old fashioned bakery charm. Great bread at good prices & it's just cool to check it out. It's hidden in plain sight; If you've driven down Salina, you've probably past it! They may still be cash only, not 100%sure about that though.
