I remember years ago seeing that Kasai had philly cheesesteaks on their menu, but we tried a bunch of other things instead. When we went back for the cheesesteaks they were gone, and we thought we really missed out. Turns out they were just practicing for a new spot next door, so we got our chance after all.A weird number of restaurants around here claim to make the "real deal" philly cheesesteaks, and I have yet to find a real comparison. It's the same owner as Kasai, which I love and respect. I don't doubt his ability to make great and original food. So I'm genuinely stumped about Danny's, like are they taking creative liberties that make it a different experience, or do you just have to Be in Philly? We tried a bunch of cheesesteaks when we went to Philadelphia, stopping at even some of the lesser known spots. Everything we tried there was an entire level over anything we've had elsewhere. The concept doesn't seem that complicated, but even at home we haven't been able to emulate it 100%. Just finding a place around here that uses wiz will get my attention. I'm not sure why, but you won't typically find it unless the place is taking strides to be authentic. We went all out on our first order, spending over $60 for two of us. Wiz Wit, South Philly Hoagie, Diablo Wings, fries and onion rings. The philly passes all the initial checks. Compact, lightly toasted hoagie roll. Looks like an absolute mess you won't be able to eat without needing a shower. First bite, the bread is just a little crispy, the meat is super tender, only when the taste set in did I realize I wasn't home free. There's something off about the wiz. My girlfriend and I sat down and tried to place it but couldn't sort it out. It tastes the way my food starts to taste once I realize I didn't get it right and start panic-adding spices to try to fix it. The beef itself was tender, but subtle.I liked the south side hoagie a lot more. I love a pile of cured meat with provolone on a dry Italian style sandwich. The meat tasted amazing and the sandwich was as good as any Italian style deli I've been to around here. My girlfriend wasn't into it because the meat was very touch and stretchy. It was, but I didn't even notice because of the taste. They sell full wings, not cut into drumsticks and flats. We ordered diablo sauce, and to my surprise it was actually pretty spicy. The wings were good, but the price was steep. The idea of an authentic cheesesteak place is a huge deal to us, so we didn't want to just dismiss them after our first trip. We came back and got two more - one with wiz, one with American Cheese. The wiz was the same as the first time. I try to write it off as a style choice we simply don't agree with, but it's hard to envision it. When we tried the philly with American, it was much better. About as good as Gino's, or the old Taste of Philadelphia place, or any of the places that take a genuine shot at the real thing.I never tried their other menu items, including the smash burgers. I did order from their ghost kitchen Decir Algo, because I love me some Birria Tacos. As expected, it was a beautiful application for all that tender beef they're already sitting on. We didn't try the queso because we were afraid it would be the same as the wiz. Birria tacos are always amazing, the only feedback I could give is that they didn't come with cilantro or limes. This is a good place, and if I'm coming off harsh, it's all in response to the claims of authenticity. They are not philly good, but what are you gonna do, drive to Philadelphia for lunch? Give them a try and see for yourself. Definitely order in advance, especially during lunch time. The wait time can get pretty long here.

Spouse just called to ask at 5:30pm if they had any steak left for steak sandwiches. Like last month, they said they ran out. What a joke. Notice how they didn't respond last time about this issue? Clearly, they don't care.

I actually like the cheessteaks.last Friday orded 2 drove from north syracuse to find out it would be another 30 minutes .I was told only 1 cook for 2 restaurants. I wish I was told that on the phone before wasting my gas.also was told I was being sent a gift card or something to rectify this problem. I provided my address and nothing came......

First impressions mean everything and we left because they ran out of steak. I wouldn't pay attention to people complaining about it being bland. Not EVERYTHING has to be popping with flavor and with the right use of condiments, you can flavor a bland steak sandwich properly. Just bad luck for both sides on a potentially bad night? Sorry, but, one thing I'm generally not too forgiving on is running out of product. This place has potential because there aren't many places to get such a variety of steak sandwiches. They might take a good hard look at this and think about how they can improve

04/26/2023I walked in just after 11am and ordered a to-go half cheesesteak combo that came with fries and a drink for $12. The sandwich wasn't cooked to order or hot. The meat had absolutely no flavor to it and was dry. The homemade cheese sauce was cold, off tasting, and the fries tasted off as well. I also found a hair in my sandwich!!! Worst cheesesteak sandwich I've ever had. I agree with other reviewers that the food here is awful. AVOID!

Went to Danny's for lunch today (12/10) and had a great meal. Ordered the half steak, fries and a drink combo, choosing a classic wiz wit. The food was delicious and came out very fast, and the employee working the register was very polite and friendly.

Having thought about it a bit, my previous review was probably a bit unfair. In Philly, we compared a new cheesesteak to our favorite places around town. In this case it would be like comparing a five guys burger to a ground filet mignon and ribeye burger from a fancy restaurant. The reality is, this is the best cheesesteak in Syracuse and the closest you will get to a true Philly cheesesteak. I would still rate it as average if it was located in Philly but I ate average steaks often also when I lived there. He definitely does the meat right. Although the onion rings were great, I still think they were very overpriced. I paid $1.00 per onion ring.

Excellent Sandwich! Ordered the Pizza Steak and was greeted with a cheesesteak loaded with a ton of quality shaved ribeye and pepperoni, perfect amount of sauce and cheese, and I believe the rolls were the classic Amoroso that all the places down in Philly serve. The actual restaurant was very clean and the cashier was extremely friendly as well. Highly recommend this place, I personally think Danny's has the best cheesesteaks in Syracuse!

I believe I’m being generous with a 3 star. I want to like them so bad. We dined in on Sunday afternoon 11/20. We couldn’t decide what I wanted so, we all ordered a little bit of everything. My basic whiz wit steak fell apart as soon as I picked it up and I had to eat it with a fork. The bread needs major help. The house made chips were pretty spicy, which I loved but we’re not advertised as spicy and my husband was disappointed he couldn’t eat them. The kid found a hair fried into his chicken tender; but the tenders were otherwise pretty good, crispy, and homemade/bartered.The young lady working the counter I believe was new since she could not answer any of our questions, but she was kind nonetheless. As a chicken wing connoisseur, I was super excited to try their “whole wings”. What I received were rubbery single wings with thin sauce that just fell off the chicken. The blue cheese served with it had a sour aftertaste. We all tried one and tossed the rest. I was sooo excited to try their unique concept, but was so so so disappointed ☹️My daughter offered a Caeser salad and added chicken. Her sale was served 10 minutes after we all got our meals. The same young lady working the register brought it and offered and excuse about trying to perfect the croutons in the fryer. Well, the croutons were wet and soggy with grease. We had to ask for dressing as the salad was not tossed as a caeser should be. The basket (same basket fries are served in) was too small to mix the salad and salad wound up all over the table. On a good noted, the curly fries were very good. Crispy, good flavor, and about identical to Arby’s. ?

I stopped in and being from Philly I am always a critic of steak sandwich’s outside of Philly. Well I ordered the chicken Utica greens sandwich and it was delicious. Loaded with shave chicken? The roll was soft and the Utica greens had a nice spice to them. I would highly recommend. Can’t wait to go back. You might want to give the inside more of a Philly feel with more pictures, team jerseys, and maybe Rocky playing on one of the monitors. Just an idea. Keep up the great workMark

We heard such great things about this place and I have to say that I was a bit disappointed with the food and the prices. The pizza steak was $12.99 and the chicken steak was $10.99, which wouldn't be bad if the sandwiches were a good size but they are so small. I would have to say that they are about 6 inches long. Most cheesesteaks that I have had are much larger and greasy. The cheesesteaks here, although small, seem fresh and not as greasy, which is good, but they could be bigger for the price. Two of us had one bottled drink each and one cheesesteak each, and the bill was $30. The prices are not practical for a daily lunch, and prepare to leave hungry unless you empty your wallet. We won't be back. We have been to Philly for cheesesteaks and Philly blows this place away a thousand times over! Even Gino's Steaks in North Syracuse is better than Danny's Steaks. The meat was bland and the cheese "whiz" was tasteless on the chicken steak. The only thing that you could taste on the pizza steak was the sauce, so disappointing. We waited 20 minutes for low quality food, and there was only 3 other people (with small orders) in the place. The restaurant is clean, which is a plus.

It was just okay, meat wasn't seasoned but tender and good beef, onions was raw not carmelized, cheese wiz didn't have any flavor ,I'll go with provolone if I come back. I been to two award winning steak places in Philadelphia and it doesn't even compare at all, just good unseasoned meat I didn't hear no metal chopping ! At all I asked the girl the chopping back there ,she didn't really say yes. I can't cosign yet , I'm a try one more time.

Best food my husband n i ate at Taste of Syr, Wiz with, only item we went back for twice, it was so delicious! I've lived many years in Philadelphia n eaten a lot of cheesesteaks there lol, from the well known to the moms n pops stores n this one rivals with the best of them. The generous amount of juicy tender beef was mixed well with wiz n onions on a soft but still sturdy roll. Took me back to food memories of hanging out on South st. on hot summer nights with my best college buds n then grabbing a whiz wit. Spoke to the owner n had to tell him he got it right, I've been looking for a Phila cheesesteak in Syr, n only found steak subs, good but not the same. Thank you for bringing a little bit of Philly to Syr!Will Danny's Steaks be at the NY State Fair? Please be there for a delicious option!

We went in Thursday around 5 to order 4 sandwiches and some wiz curly fries. We placed our order around 530. The wait was never told to us but we overheard others at 15 mins. Later we heard more clearly 5 0 mins. Fine, we go to run an errand and come back. When we returned people were getting upset about the wait. If they complained it seemed that their orders would skip to the front. all the understanding patrons were waiting extra times. We finally received our order around 720. We get home and two of the sandwich orders were wrong, no wiz and they were dry to the point of not being at all enjoyable. Then the wiz fries had no wiz. Tried calling Friday after lunchtime but never heard back. Another issue we saw was they were taking phone orders after every inperson. If you are so busy in person maybe stop taking phone orders.Overall this place has great potential but we are soured on the lack of service and attention to detail. Hopefully this gets figured out over the next couple weeks.
