We were visiting Syracuse and hungry, Google helped us find this gem. The parking lot was pretty full, but there was lots of seating available. You get to pick your own table or sit at the bar. Our server was very upbeat, friendly, and attentive. We ordered the mozzarella fritta and mac and cheese balls for apps. They came out quickly and were piping hot. they specialize in deep dish, it's pretty good. never had Chicago though to compare. we had pasta and it was good. nice little bar with tvs. patio outside but it was raining. my kids got to watch them make the pizzas at the counter. we've been here twice and will be back!
I grew up on Gino's East (the original Al Capone location), Giordano's (the original in Hyde Park), and much later on Lou Malnatti's--which I occasionally have shipped frozen to CNY. Pump Pizza's deep dish has a lot more crust, making it more a thick pizza than a Chicago-style deep dish pizza. It comes close, though.
