A perfect, reliable place to get a delicious bagel sandwich. I wish I could give 5 stars but they sometimes mess up my sandwich and very quickly fix it (I don't mind this at all) but the guy at the register (usually has a hat and white apron on, middle aged) absolutely berates and degrades any employee who makes a mistake. I feel bad that he is (apparently) their boss, and his customer service is poor at best.

Being from Long Island, this was the first time I had a bagel in Central NY and it actually tasted like a bagel from Long Island. The bagel had the right amount of "chew" and was fluffy on the inside. The outside was crisp and seasoned very well. There was a good amount of cream cheese on the bagel (but not too much that it was overkill), leading to a good bagel-spread ratio. If you're in the Syracuse area, I would definitely check out this bagel shop.

So, not ONLY does Schoolyard Bagels make awesome, mouth-watering authentic down-state bagels and delicious XX LARGE sandwiches, the 3 owners are kind, witty, friendly (sometimes funny) and generous to a fault! When I first met them back in the summer, they told me that were not interested in selling or offering day-old bagels... FRESH ONLY! And they stand by that religiously! So, of course, being a Franciscan and a beggar by profession, I asked them what their plans were with their day-old bagels and rolls? And before they could muster a reply, I told them that we Conventual Franciscan Friars run a Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen on the Northside of Syracuse, called Assumption Food Pantry. And from opening day and every day thereafter, the day-old bagels are in the hands (and mouths) of those who are hungry or suffering with food insecurities on the Northside! And so, on their behalf, please allow me to thank you: Carmine, Nicky, Peter and Frankie, and staff, for your selfless generosity and love for those less fortunate than ourselves! God bless you! May your store be always filled with loving, devoted and hungry customers!

Want a real Brooklyn experience right here in CNY? Visit Schoolyard Bagels on University Ave on the SU Hill. The bagels have the correct "chew" that you expect from an authentic down-state bagel and are quite delicious! There are NY city accents a plenty, from Alice, Carmine, Frankie, Nick, and Peter along with some awesome Italian-attitude sandwiches! There is even one I created and got named after me: "The Father Gerry!" Try it on a sesame bagel OR a sub roll. You'll want to go back for another real soon! And, while you're at it, try "The Billy G." It's named after a good friend of mine here in CNY! "Auguri!!!!" Welcome to the neighborhood!

Schoolyard Bagels: Bringing Brooklyn Flavor to SyracuseStepping into Schoolyard Bagels feels like a culinary journey straight to the heart of Brooklyn, New York. From the moment I entered, greeted by the friendly and professional Owen, to my first bite of their perfectly chewy, golden brown bagels, I knew I had stumbled upon something special. My order of a Sesame Bagel toasted with Garden Vegetable Cream Cheese was nothing short of perfection. Each bite resonated with the unmistakable essence of a Brooklyn bagel, boasting a plump, rounded exterior and a fine crumb structure that struck the delicate balance between chewy and tender. It's clear that Schoolyard Bagels has mastered the art of bagel-making, executing a careful dance of preparation that results in a superior product. This dedication to quality was further evident in the enthusiastic response from Frankie when I expressed my delight. Ordered a bagel sandwich and salt bagel with cream cheese. Food was really great and they were ok with me bringing in an outside coffee from salt city. Only suggestion is a better way to toast bagels

As a native NYCer, is this the most authentic bagel? No. Does it have potential, absolutely. the quality of the bagel is way better than Water St... Worth a try for sure.

Stopped in for a bagel, to be honest their bagels are off the hook. Simply delicious. Also had one of their signature sandwiches, " Robby Rings" to bring home with me. It never made it, I devoured it on the ride home. I recommend this place to everyone. ??

Came in for a late night BEC and it was perfect. So happy to have a place that’s open late and puts out quality food. Fast service, great bagels and it smelled amazing when I walked in.Definitely reminds me of bagels shops back home in Brooklyn and I can’t wait to come back and give the rest of the menu a try.
