Took my niece before she went back to college. Not too busy, food was good as always, wait staff was nice and polite. I feel like it's the same servers that have been there a while which I like. New England clam chowder is really good. Nice portions. Small, quaint place. Bar was nice too.
Parking: There's a huge empty lot on the other side of this place where you can park too, which kind of helps out
Food is great, and it's one of my go too for seafood now. Lunch specials is a pretty good chose. Mashed potatoes are nice for a side. A big proportion for a garden side salad and house Italian is good.
Fabulous meal. Clam Bar was very busy and still the staff managed to be extremely accommodating and friendly. Ashley was our waitress, but 2 others assisted. Prices were reasonable. Portion and food quality was great. We will be back – Food was great but must say the #1 reason is staff! We only return to places that demonstrate a desire for our business…a smile and friendly attitude goes a long way. Very impressive staff.
First time visit and the food and service was excellent. Will be back soon and this time for sit down. I read some of the reviews that were negative. It's hard to please everyone.
I've heard good things about this place (but from before new ownership took over) and decided to give it a shot..... unfortunately this place takes the cake for the worst food I've ever had at a restaurant, and when I called them after to talk about it, the manager woman hung up on me, and I was NOT rude about it.On 7/12/2023 I took my gf there for her birthday. We ordered the following: Clams Casino (large portion), 2 bowls of New England clam chowder, and 2 crab cake dinner. The clam chowder was absolutely disgusting. There was zero flavor and it was the consistency of water (no thickness). We couldn't understand how they could make such a dusgusting soup. We both said this tastes like soap water. I'm telling you, zero flavor. The clams casino were horrible as well. They were literally, and I kid you not, clam shells filled w bread crumbs and the clam meat itself, nothing else, no cheese, no moisture-contributing ingredients, just bread crumbs, and some were burned. We both said it was like eating sand inside a clam shell. The waitress came over and said they were out of the bernaise sauce for the crab cakes so we luckily canceled that piece of the order, paid the bill, and left.I did not want to embarrass my girlfriend in front of the patrons there by complaining about the food so I made the decision to call the next day. I did call the next day and asked to speak w the manager about the experience. She was as rude as possible. She barely let me speak, and her excuse was, we should have brought it up last night. I explained to her I was not going to create an embarrassing situation for myself or my gf, and it makes zero difference whether I call the next morning or state my issue to the waitress, it STILL happened! Still waiting for the owner to call me, but not holding my breath. They deserve zero dollars from me and I am demanding refund, but in zero-class style for a zero-shame establishment, they are refusing lol.Don't go to this place. They are horrible.
Had a party of 7, and it seems to be a large party for that size business. Quaint small venue with wonderful people and pretty good service. Fish and scallops were a bit overdone but good all the same.
We visited Syracuse from Texas and wanted to try some seafood. We researched for a seafood joint and decided to give the Clam Bar a try. Boy, we regretted the decision. We came there and waited to be seated. We weren’t greeted at all. So we decided to seat ourselves. We didn’t get acknowledged for about 10 mins or longer. Finally one of the waitstaff asked what we wanted to drink. Wife asked for water and I ordered a beer. She brought out the water but didn’t bring me the beer. Instead she helped one of other waitstaff cleaned a table. We sat there and just looked and then waited some more. Then a couple came in and was greeted by another waitress. She passed by us several times but didn’t acknowledged us. She brought out a plate of appetizer and told the couple they can enjoy while deciding what to order! That was the last straw for us. We got up and left. I came back in to spoke to the manager, Carol, who was tending the bar. She apologized and asked for us to come back and try to make it up for us. It’s difficult for me not to think she didn’t see us come in and not see what was happening since it’s a small space and the bar overlooks where we were seating. But the damaged was already done. Also, when I came back the people who came and sat at our booth that came in shortly after we left already had their drinks on the table! We never experienced anything like this before. Will never step foot back here again. It was obvious, we were treated like this because we were Asian. I don’t like to think like this but don’t know any other reason. We searched at other eateries and decided to check out The Fish Friar and glad we did. They have excellent service and great food. Definitely made up for what we experienced at the clam bar.
Want delicious food, especially the fried fish, with great service, reasonable prices with a neighborhood atmosphere? This is the place! I've eaten there several times and they never disappoint. Exceptional chicken wings too!
Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options are available. A member of our party has Gluten allergies and the staff made sure they were safe. Thank you
I also had a bad experience with the food . I ordered the haddock (boiled) and it tasted rubbery. The shrimp was also rubbery. It’s unfortunate because i have eaten at the clam bar before it was good maybe the new owner or cook ?
Super cute theme, kinda rustic and seaboard. Our waitress was great. The Provincial clams were some of the best I've had. We were drinking the leftover broth! The famous wings were tasty as well. Unfortunately we were severely underwhelmed with the entrees. The famous steak sandwich didn't say slab of steak or Philly chopped. Cheese onions etc were optional and we didn't ask so that's on us. It was chopped up Philly cheese steak style meat. The fried oysters were quite small and not really as expected. Overall we'd come back for the fresh and tasty seafood only. Half eaten photos because we dove in.

This visit was the best I've had there. Michelle our server was very friendly and attentive. She made our visit a great experience. Fried haddock dinner was very good. Broiled seafood platter was good, except for clams not completely open and couldn't get them.
I visited this place a few times in 2020 and never left a review. Since I’m in the area I decided to give them another visit, I remember the food being pretty good. It’s still as good as it was 3 years ago. Ordered a sandwich from the special menu and it didn’t disappoint, it was as good as it looks.Chipotle Lime Fried Chickentopped with cheddar, pineapple salsa and a chipotle-lime aioli
My friend wanted to here, and even though it is not my favorite place, I relented. What a mistake! Drinks took about 15 minutes, bread was stale, salads were bare bones. I had linguini and clam sauce - most oil and butter. Four of us agreed that once was enough!
We have not been to this place in about 10 years. We used to go here on date nights. We always got the same food so since we were in the area we decided to go back and experience some nostalgia. We always order the same thing. This time was no exception. We ordered the award-winning New England clam chowder, salad with crumbly blue in Italian, and clams provincial. Needless to say, nothing had changed and we were still impressed if not even more with the quality. Our favorite part is dipping the bread, delicious.I should have taken more photos like usual but I was too busy being happy and enjoying the food.
This was a special treat....and this is the perfect place of seafood. My friends and myself had drinks and dessert as well. Everything fresh, Everything good! Will be returning soon!
