Went to the ‘76 House for dinner with friends and we had a great time. Service was excellent. The owner came over to our table and gave us a history lesson on the place. The restaurant dates back to the 1600’s. George Washington and Benedict Arnold would eat and hang out there. Food was extremely good too. Icing on the cake.

Solid restaurant with a whole lot of history. You can have healthy choices as well as pub standards. They do have at times music performers.

We had a lovely family meal one evening in such historic surroundings. We were welcomed in, the serving staff were lovely and seeing an open fire always makes you feel cozy. My son said the burger was the best he had ever had.

If you have even a passing interest in American history then you must go here. Not just a meal but an experience. Benedict Arnold, John Andre, George Washington... All here, all at the same time. Here. Alexander Hamilton lived upstairs for two years (or six depending on the source). Have the same ale recipe that was GWs fave. Some of this is myth, probably, but the Tappan House really did see these figures. And the food is great! So is the service. So go. You won't regret it.

This place has so much history. The food was delicious. Had the chicken pot pie & shepherds pie. Both were incredible. Tom the mgr came over and introduced himself & intrigue us on the history of the place. They also had live jazz music playing which was enjoyable during dinner. Can’t wait to go back to try other menu items

We had pot roast beef with mashed potatoes & sweet red cabbage, it was yummy, the salad was delicious 😋. I had the Washington's favorite beer 🍺 😋. The entire table enjoyed the pot roast beef, we all felt that it was fantastic.

We were traveling in for some personal business from Lansing, Michigan. Just us and another couple seated not far from us. Just boom! Everthing out of the park. Point blank period. The entire staff was on point. Enough said. Just go and experience the fabulous menu atmosphere and classy staff.

Someone had recommended I visit this tavern because I love Revolutionary War history. I am so happy I took the time to go! This is a must if you love colonial history. The owner was very nice, and took the time to show me around the restaurant, and tell me about a few of the historic relics. My eggs benedict (Arnold) was great too.

We love historic venues and visiting this restaurant had been on my list for a long time. I had the Jägerschnitzel and thought it was very good (not as good as in some German restaurants I've been to (or on a trip to Vienna a few years back), but still very good (maybe a little more of the mushroom cognac demi-glaze would have been nice). My wife had the Local Trout Trieste, which was also very good. I had the '76 House Tavernkeeper Ale which I thought was excellent (if you like malty brown ales, which I do). For dessert, had Hannah's Apple Crunch. It was good but would have been better if the apple pieces were cut smaller (or if it was served in a wider/flatter bowl). I would definitely return if in the area again.

Very historical and charming, good location easy parking, service fast and and people nice. Food so so. The mussels were with heavy cream in not so good. Burger ok not the best I ever had but for size and location definitely it seems overpriced. They add 3.9% if you pay card

What a charming and historic tavern! The Old 76 House was definitely a highlight of our time in the Hudson Valley. The atmosphere is rich with history, and you can really feel it the moment you walk in. The food was delicious, and the live jazz music by Judy Marie & Friends made the evening feel extra special. A perfect blend of great food, music, and ambiance—highly recommended!

My sister in law recommended this place while we were in NY! I wish it was closer to where we lived! The atmosphere was rustic. The ambiance inviting.. there was even a live band playing. The food was off the charts amazing. My husband, daughter and I shared the Faroe Isaland Salmon Terrine and the Cordon Bleu and loved every bite!
Everything about this place is what we love. Plus it's the oldest restaurant in America, so of course, it's a must for us! Looking forward to when we can go back!
