Was not expecting a major culinary experience but was pleasantly surprised. We had the 8oz filet. Charred perfectly and perfect medium rare. The lamb entry was excellent. The sides had a upscale presentation and were good. Only disappointment was the shrimp appetizer. It was 4 small shrimp from the buffet that were peeled in a so so garlic sauce with rice. Was more a rice dish than shrimp. Would suggest removing from menu. The utica greens app was fine. The atmosphere is more in line to a typical breakfast venue. This is not a fancy restaurant but prices are reasonable. The waitress was responsive, again more like a wait staff in a diner, but no complaints. For gamblers one can bet on the horses.

We made reservation this. Time for a farewell dinner and it was a great dinner experience. The table we requested was reserved for us and service was great. The fish fry was a little bit on the dry side, however, still very tasty. Overall great experience.

I found the beer batter haddock coating to be quite thick tonight it wasn't flaky like it usually is and crispy. Also, the coleslaw there is just horrible, it has been like that for months and months now and I think a lot of people are requesting to go back to the old coleslaw. Other than that everything there is usually quite good.

We were hoping for a good experience based on the reviews, but it was just not good. Bad service and bad food. The table was even sticky! Nothing was cleared from the table between courses, and the steak tips were just horrible. Some dishes were fine and some quite bad.

The service and the server we had was excellent very attentive, we were served our appetizer and they were pretty bland and tasteless and we were not even five minutes into the appetizer and our main course came. Unfortunately, the fish fry was bland, and who cuts the fish fry in half to let all the moisture escape to place it on a plate? That's the first time that's ever happened all the times I've ever had a fish fry out in public in 58 years. I had the chicken and mushroom risotto and it was salty and the chicken was dry. There were people coming in seeing if they could sit down and when asked if they had a reservation and told no, they were told that they could not see them till at least 8:30 PM , more than half the tables were empty when we were there and by the time we left more than half the tables were still empty. Why turn away business?

We went with two other couples, so 6 in all. Everyone enjoyed their meal. We all had the Prime Rib. Everyone was served their meat as requested, very rare to medium well. Our server was delightful. Great meal for a great price.

The food was excellent and plentiful. Our prime rib was cooked as requested. Sides were hot and delicious. Bianca, our waitress, was attentive and professional. Another wonderful experience at Mr. G's. Thank you.

The shrimp platter was 8 large breaded shrimp with potato wedges and very good but the coleslaw that came with it was not edible. The haddock baked potato and carrots were top notch as was the Penne ala vodka- took awhile to get the check but they seemed like the waitress was also doing hostess duty so it was ok

Overall experience was very good. Food was very good but we had four prime rib specials and all four were served just warm. Obviously, prime rib should be served hot! However, all of our six meals tasted excellent. Sadly, we we had to ask for refills for our drinks instead of being offered them. And the big hiccup was the bill which didn't already include the promotional price of the prime rib dinner specials. This was a $36 mistake that, fortunately, my brother caught. It was a fun night (a 45 minute road trip) that was good tasting and fun despite the mishaps.

Waited 10 minutes to be acknowledged after we were sat. Waitress came over took our drink and food order, bought us breadsticks before our drinks came. Breadsticks were cold and hard. No better than frozen grocery store breadsticks. Drinks came, they were good. However, I am unsure how you screw up a captain and coke and a white claw. Oh let me tell you how, the waitress attempt to pour water in my white claw. Second round of drinks, I had to physically get off the pick up area on the bar. Why you ask, because no one ever brought them to us. Appetizer was arancini sticks, tasteless. Served with “sauce” that was no better than Ragù. Dinner came, mushroom risotto and gnocchi vodka with grilled steak. It was absolutely disgusting! Risotto tasted like a bowl of overcooked salt. Gnocchi was mush served with something claiming to be vodka sauce. It was similar to ketchup. Barely consumed our entrees and the waitress ask if we wanted boxes. We stated no and requested our bill. This was the first and last time I will ever dine at Mr. G's Food and Spirts. DO NOT dine at this establishment.

I ordered the Gnocchi with pesto, spinach and pecans. Honestly, I have absolutely no idea what I was served. This is a meal I am familiar with from other establishments. The minute our wonderful waitress set it in front of me, all I could think was it looked like ooze from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show. It appeared neon! It was so slimy and tasted so bad I had 3 bites and couldn't eat anymore. The gnocchi was hard, flavorless tubes, I believe there was spinach, no clue how the pesto was made, but I've never seen or tasted anything so bad before. Not sure what's going on in the kitchen, but we won't return. Oh, Don got a fish fry. He said it was “okay”, but tasted as if it had been frozen.

We had excellent service. Our waitress, Cheryl, was phenomenal, as always. We ordered linguine with clams and white wine sauce. The clams were good. The pasta was undercooked and not really sure what was put on it as the “white wine sauce“. It was very watery with a slight flavor of wine. This is a meal we will not have again. Many people around us or do the same thing. I heard similar comments coming from them. One woman actually sent hers back and ordered something different.

I had the chicken Milanese for the second time and both times I found it to be excellent....and the house salad was so big, I could have just had that for my meal and it would have been enough.

The service was very good. Wait staff very pleasant and accommodating. The food is just o.k. They have a good variety of sides which most restaurants don't but the main part of the meal, mine was salmon, was very overcooked and mediocre at best. They have a very limited wine selection. Unfortunately if you're staying at Vernon Downs there isn't much of a selection of restaurants for a full course dinner. Overall disappointed.
