The Vernon Downs Casino Hotel was a good experience, but definitely could have been a little better.PARKING: The parking lot was pretty large, but close enough that it was not a long walk to the front entrance. To those that have EVs, this hotel does not offer charging.CHECK IN AND ROOM: The room was much better than expected for the price, and the check in process was smooth and I got into my room in minutes. A problem with this though, is that they didn't ask for ANY ID... which I found odd? Especially considering I booked 3rd party too- I literally could have just given them a name and gotten into a room. Then, my door was unlocked, and OPEN when I got to it- definitely a safety issue, especially for those traveling alone. Some of my pillows didn't have covers on them, the couch cushions weren't cleaned, and they didn't have room service (even though there is an updated room service menu in the room).FOOD AND CHECKOUT: The restaurants on site are pretty okay, and I recommend checking out 777 if you're looking to ball on a budget. You can get a whole combo pizza meal for like $7! Check out was a breeze, and you just drop off your keys at the front desk. Here, I asked "do you happen to have a water fountain anywhere?" to which they replied "the bathroom sinks" ... maybe it's just me, but I think a simple no would have been better lol. I then headed to the complementary breakfast- which was definitely appreciated, but I want to warn is not continental by any means. It is small generic bagels you can put in a toaster, plain donuts, orange juice, tea, and that's pretty much it. It's right next to the track though, so depending when you go, it may be nice to sit on the track and watch the horses in the morning.CASINO: I do not gamble, but I went though the casino to get to the 777 restaurant, and as someone who has gone to many casinos in the past- it seemed as a relatively average casino. There were many normal denomination slots, all virtual. I did not see any live tables, or non-virtual slots (then again, I didn't gamble, so maybe I missed something). I think the casino could be a good option if this is the closest to you, but it truly is a very generic experience in my opinion. It is 18+, and does not serve alcohol on the floor, but does have a bar you can go to. However, there are NOT many young people here.Rooms: There are quite a few room styles, and may be worth an upgrade, but for the three of us, the standard two queen bed room was quite enough room and provided adequate space.Nearby activities: Not much, the casino is the only thing in the area.Safety: The hotel itself is well lit, and the front desk answers calls in a second- but my door was unlocked and open when I got there, very unsafe especially for single travelers. Front desk said this happens frequently.Walkability: The hotel is very walkable, but outside is not- so not expect to be able to find anything neighboring.Food & drinks: There is no room service, even though there will most likely be a card in the room indicating there is. 777 is the cheapest restaurant on property. The complementary breakfast is rather simple, and not continental.

Great tiny casino, but there is nothing around it, could use an exterior remodel to look more modern. Kind of out of the way from everything, the place is a big horse race track, with a indoor casino,. Barns and casino are not a really great mix.

I'm very irritated, I stayed there literally last night, complained about the weed smell in the hotel room so we were switched to another room, that new room proceeded to have a broken bathroom door that didnt latch (we told them about it room 402 ) and they still wanted to keep our security deposit when we didn't do anything wrong in the room
