First time trying Sri Lankan food — and I did not expect to have this kind of experience in Beacon, NY! From the outside, it feels like you’re walking into someone’s home, and the inside has that same cozy vibe.

We came on a Sunday around 1 p.m. after hiking for some fall foliage and were happy to find seats available. There was just one person taking orders, so it took about 5–6 minutes to place ours, but that gave us time to really look over the menu.
Here’s what we tried:
* Appetizer Sampler – 2 fried fish balls, 2 spring rolls, and 2 small veggie samosas. (7/10)
* Deviled Pork – Must try! Perfectly crisp edges with a slightly chewy texture, full of flavor — sweet, savory, not greasy — all over fluffy yellow rice. Absolutely delicious and not that spicy. (10/10)
* Hopper with Goat – The hopper itself was so interesting! It’s a thin, bowl-shaped pancake to pair with the goat. (8/10)
* Sri Lankan Tea with Milk – As a milk tea lover, I was so happy. The ginger and spice blend gave it such warmth, and they even serve it with a piece of brown rock sugar if you want it sweeter. (10/10)
* Watalappan – A spiced coconut flan with cashews for crunch — rich, fragrant, and perfectly balanced. (10/10)
* Kiri Peni – High-quality yogurt drizzled with a light sweet syrup — simple but so good. (9/10)
The food came out fairly quickly, and we were done by 2 p.m. The portions are on the smaller side, but with an appetizer, entrée, and dessert, we left feeling satisfied and not bloated. This makes sense since they take pride in using just spices to cook without oil.

Prices are a bit high for the portion size, but I would still consider it a gem in Beacon. I’d definitely come back to try more entrées in the future and check out a spot in the city!

The owner Saman was delightful with our table explaining how Sri Lankan food is different - less oil, more spice. He is very lively and he was absolutely right. I had the curry and it was truly delicious. This is the best after hiking food I’ve ever had. Charming environment, friendly and yummy.

What a lovely gem in beacon! I have to admit I’m not an expert in Sri Lankan cuisine, but the owner was so friendly and so warm. We felt like we were eating at a friend‘s house. Would highly recommend the double chicken, the fried lentil fritters, the Porrata, the coconut sambol, and the katta sambol (hot sauce made with Carolina reapers). For dessert, the watalappam (spiced flan made with coconut milk) was a must try, even for my boyfriend who hates coconut.

Very delicious! My first time having Sri Lankan food and it didn’t disappoint. We tried the deviled Chicken and the kothu roti and would order both dishes again. Will definitely come back when I visit Beacon!

Absolutely amazing Sri Lankan cuisine you can experience in NY. The Kottu is much more flavourful and way better than Sigiri in NYC. The new location feels welcoming, pleasant and Saman is like family to us so will continue to come here more often. Thank you and keep up the great work :)

The space was perfectly fine with a tv highlighting some lovely parts of Sri Lanka. I ordered a curry and asked for chickpeas instead of meat. They offered me soy, but I really wanted chickpeas. They had a separate chickpea dish but it would’ve been too much food. I don’t get the refusing the chickpeas😒And everything on the plate was brown. Except the rice, .it was white.

We have been going to the Red Pepper Diner for many years and have always enjoyed the food and service. Our go-to dishes have always been the Hoppers and the Deviled Chicken. Recently we had the opportunity to spend 6 months in Sri Lanka and had an amazing experience. While we were in Sri Lanka we had access to all of the best ingredients and a wide variety of restaurants and ate Sri Lankan food at every opportunity. Over our 6 months in Sri Lanka we kept looking for Deviled chicken that was as good as what Saman makes at the Red Pepper Diner and we couldn't find it.... So when we got back from Sri Lanka we had to have the best Deviled Chicken in the world... :)

Delicious food, but I felt like the portions were way too small considering the cost. I basically spent nearly $40 on food, drink, tip, and a very tiny dessert and I was still hungry afterwards. Because of that I can’t really recommend this place, at least not if you want to leave full and satisfied.

Truly incredible food. My partner and I went to Sri Lanka a few years ago and since then I’ve been trying in vain to find Sri Lankan food where we live, but to no avail. Finding ourselves in Beacon for the weekend, this spot popped up in our search for breakfast and we raced over for some hoppers and curry. The flavor was spot on—immediately transported me back to that Sri Lankan trip—and the owner was so attentive and accommodating. My partner also has celiac, and there was no shortage of gluten-free options for him. Everything was SO delicious—I’d absolutely drive another 4 hours to eat here again!

Great Sri Lankan restaurant. I had the goat curry at the suggestion of the host and it was delicious. Delicious spices. Good for people who are gluten free as well.
