I’ve been a longtime fan of Michael Angelo’s cassata cake, but I was incredibly disappointed, and frankly embarrassed, by what I recently purchased and served for my dad’s 71st birthday.
For $45, I expected the classic cassata cake I’ve always known from them: layers of creamy custard and fresh strawberries. Instead, I received a cake filled with strawberry jelly, completely lacking in flavor and actual fruit. The custard layer was thin and not the creamy texture you would expect. It was stiff, likely due to the gelatin in the jelly. I even let the cake sit out for 30 minutes before cutting it.
There was no clear indication of this major recipe change unless you happened to notice a sign on the display case, according to the manager. When I asked for a cassata cake, the staff said nothing about it being different. Had I known, I absolutely would not have purchased it. Unfortunately, I ended up throwing half of it away.
When I called today to share my feedback, I was told that if I wanted the traditional cassata cake with fresh strawberries, it needed to be ordered one week in advance. If that is the case, then this should be clearly communicated to customers, especially since the current version was changed only a few months ago. I suggested either updating the name to reflect what is actually being sold or having staff inform customers of the change at the time of purchase. For the price being paid, this is a reasonable expectation. Although the manager listened, she did not seem particularly concerned.
I was under the impression I was purchasing a cassata cake. What I received was not. At best, it was a strawberry jelly and custard cake, and unfortunately, not an enjoyable one. This was an extremely disappointing experience from a bakery I once trusted and recommended.
Visited the winery and bakery today for a friends birthday. Everything was pretty good until the bakery completely ruined our experience. After spending $50 on a birthday cake, I retuned to the bakery to request a box for our leftover cake. The representative at the bakery was extremely difficult and rude. After several requests, we got a box which was way too small which ultimately left or leftover cake in shambles. Only giving this place a 2 because the bakery is actually tasty. Will review the winery with high remarks separately on the winery’s page.
Absolutely HORRIBLE business. I ordered and paid for a cake several days ago for my 7yo daughter’s birthday party. Went to pick up the cake and they never made it. The form “was misfiled”. No apology. My option was to have a cake pulled from their case to use instead (my daughter wanted a specific design that they did not have in their case), they would make the cake “later” (her BD party was in one hour) or give us our money back. That was it. No apology, nothing. Shrugged their shoulders and didn’t care. Shitty attitude. I asked them if they wanted to come to my daughters party and explain to her why the cake she really wanted won’t be there and now we have to grab a cheap Meijer cake (which tastes better anyway than their overpriced cakes). Of course no manager was around to speak to. With one hour left, we opted to get our money back. Guess what??? No manger present means they can’t refund our money until a manager returns TOMORROW. But you had no problem taking my money when I ordered. Needless to say I told the story at our party and MULTIPLE people said they had the exact same experience there as well. Paid for cakes that were never made followed by a shitty unapologetic response. Great business! We will never return and I’ll make sure I let everyone know to never buy overpriced dry cakes from there again.
Been standing in here in the rain waiting on service with 3 people working no acknowledgement still nothing. I didn't see the sign that was on the other side saying line starts here. I used to come in here after working 3rd shift around the corner from here. Where I stood today to order is where I've stood before and never a problem before. As much as our family have enjoyed the cakes from here today was our last purchase.
Three cakes in one month, for different occasions… all were ABYSMAL. I picked up a cake picked up on Monday morning, and called on Monday evening to speak to the owner of Michael Angelo’s… the cake I picked up looked like a child baked and frosted it. It was NOT freshly made. I ordered this same cake, a raspberry almond torte, on multiple occasions in the past few years (have been coming for 25+ years), and this time was so bad, SOMETHING must be different. I was told it has always been the same bakers and that nothing has changed… that CANNOT be the truth. After reading other reviews on Google I am far from the only one complaining and upset. Just weeks ago on May 10th, I had picked up 2 different cakes for a graduation celebration… and those too were a grave disappointment. If I had not paid for these orders ahead of time I would never have accepted them. On the aforementioned May 10th order, I specifically wanted and ordered the Tiramisu cake WITH the lady fingers, which was AVAILABLE ON YOUR WEBSITE. I called to order and was assured that was the cake I would receive. I received a chocolate frosted tiramisu cake, WITHOUT ladyfingers, after being assured I would receive what I ordered. I also ordered a gold drip graduation cake and the frosting was hideous and grainy. This bakery had to have had a shift in personnel, or corners are being cut so short that the product is suffering. Michael Angelo’s have made all of my family reunion cakes, communion confections, and confirmation cakes, wedding cakes, and more in the 25 plus years I have been coming here. This year specifically I have noticed everything is not what it used to be… even the decorating is not what it used to be. I have spent well into 5 figures at this establishment since I have been coming here, but I will not be returning. I will spread the word to friends and family, that the products you are serving are a far cry from that they used to be. I was embarrassed to serve the cakes, and though I did, hardly anyone partook. The cake ordered for May 19th’s frosting was grainy and overly sweet… AND the cake must have been sitting because the raspberry inside was so congealed to the cake - no way was this made fresh it was hideous and tasted awful.
So to sum it up 3 cakes and all were not good. The one below sloppy messy congealed raspberry filling a mess it was embarrassing. Attached are two photos… the first was the Raspberry Almond tort ordered this month, and the second photo was the one ordered 3 years ago… it exemplifies how little Michael Angelo’s seems to care.
EDIT: Why did it take over month to respond? It is nice that you're speaking to your bakers, however words are cheap, what about some type of compensation for the customer, Such as money back?
We ordered their dessert trays for our daughter's wedding and they were amazing.
Michael Angelo’s has always been good to me, 💯 recommend!
Attempted to go into the bakery to order a custom birthday cake. Immediately I was told that it could not be done. This baffled me because I had ordered the same cake I was requesting 4 months prior. They told me that they could not make a marble cake with chocolate mousse. But on thier website you can get a wedding cake with the same combination. I have never been told by a bakery that they can not bake a certain type of cake. Isn't that the whole point of a bakery?? The young girl assisting me was very rude, short with her answers, and talked to me like I was requesting something absurd. I will never give this establishment anymore more of my money.
For 3 years I’ve been trying to have cakes made by these people it’s always some big excuse as to why they can’t I call 3-4 months in advance they say they can then they change there mind… it’s horrible service I really don’t know how they run a business an make money if they aren’t up to do the job

We placed a custom order for a birthday cake (German Chocolate Torte) and received a confirmation email with an order number. When arriving to pick up the order at the designated time we were told "the order was never processed" despite us having received a confirmation regarding the order. This was after we had waited for 20 minutes while the cashier was conferring with other staff in the kitchen regarding this mix up. We were then told we would have to wait another 60 minutes for our order to be completed. This was after having driven for 45 minutes to pick up our cake.
This was our first experience with Michael Angelo's Bakery and needless to say we were very disappointed as we left without a cake for a special occasion. Our experience seems to be one that has been shared by many as of late.

I was in today purchased $30 worth of pastries to send out of state asked for a clamshell to put some of the bakery in. The girl told me no and put them it in a box. The contents in the box needed to be in the freezer and if they touch they would be frozen together so I was a little irritated. I went back up there. I told them that I needed the clamshell I was charged $.50.
When I told her I was shipping them out of state, you would think that she would’ve put them in the clamshell since we were having the conversation so I can safely freeze them and safely ship them but that didn’t happen. Needless to say I don’t think I’m going to be coming up there anymore for anything I will go elsewhere

This bakery is phenomenal. Everything I have ever had has been absolutely scrumptious. The croissants are just so good, they are my favorite. Even the flavored coffee is great. The prices are reasonable and will keep me coming back. This is the perfect neighborhood bakery.

I was (once again) blown away by the talent of the cake decorating artists! I came in to order an “under the sea” themed shower cake with just a lame picture, the color scheme and the shower invitation! The customer service girl spoke with the decorator and and told me what they could do and I said - sounds great! When I picked up the cake I almost sobbed right there - it was beyond anything I could have ever imagined! I have used only michaelangelos for the last 21 years - 4 kids: communions, birthdays, graduations, showers, engagements, and weddings! Plus the countless times I need some bakery! Thank you for this most beautiful cake that I almost cried cutting because it was a work of art!

Macs were not fresh, they cracked when you touched them, raspberry was to powerful. Cupcakes were ok. Lemon was our favorite but you can tell they freeze them because the center was still frozen. Snoogle was good but I believe they are bought whole sale and resold. Not understanding the hype here. Cookies were to be expected.

I drove 45 minutes to go here for the macarons. I unfortunately bought a dozen. They were hard, and all 12 crumbled. They were not good. We also wanted tea. They have 2 large menus on their wall with a big list of drinks only to be told they don't have anything other than coffee. Take the menus down if you don't have anything available. I won't be back. Horrible experience!
