Best in Dayton.
Beautiful and bright inside and the staff and delicious smell were a great welcome. Spring salad was a perfect blend and great for sharing. Bolognese and roasted corn angliotti were like a warm hug.

Wow. First time eating at Grist. The ambiance is relaxing/chill. The menu selection is on the smaller side....but there's a reason....cause everything they make is outstanding. We started with meatballs. I shared them with the table of 8. Everyone loved them. My wife ordered the Rosemary & Parmesan Focaccia bread...best bread I have ever had! Wife is a bread snob and she loved it. Wife ordered Tagliatelle alla Bolognese. She shared some with me. It was very good. She really liked it. I ordered the Slow Roasted Pork Raviolini. Wow. It was incredible. Wife said it was a lil spicy...but oh...the taste. She loved it as did everyone there...we shared so everyone could taste it. Wife ordered tiramisu. She loved it. I'm not a lover of tiramisu but I liked it. I got a cannoli. It was very good. I also got a chocolate chip cookie. It was great. Grist is definitely a hidden Dayton gem. If you love Italian food...you will love Grist.

(FIRST EXPERIENCE FOR LUNCH )
" Bon Appetit!๐Ÿ˜˜ Stopped by during (lunch) for some delicious soup and bread and desserts. Though I must say the deserts steal the show! I love the touch of gold ๐Ÿช™ I do enjoy the elixirs as well. But the fresh soups are a must! I can't wait to try the meatball sub! Everything was superb! And I was looking forward to a future dinner reservation with amazing company to celebrate someone very special. "

(FIRST EXPERIENCE FOR DINNER)
" Well I made my dinner reservation on the first Friday of SPRING 3/21/2025 to celebrate my late sister's birthday with the most important people in my life. HAPPY BIRTHDAY HERLINDA! We miss you! I would kindly recommend being specific with your dinner reservation. Perhaps that would have helped me. Our hostess was amazing and her name is Sara. She was able to make some last minute accommodations for my table of 5. I like her so much I think she deserves a promotion. I would go back to Grist just to see her smile and be in the presence of her company! She would make a very good restaurant manager.

I wasn't aware of the lack of table service prior to our dinner. MY BAD. I suppose I am a bit spoiled in that area of my life. I must say, I prefer to sit down and be served while enjoying an expensive dinner and this is America after all.

The menu hadn't changed much for spring and I must say that was a bit disappointing. I did enjoy my Fresh spring ๐Ÿฅ— with ๐Ÿฅ‘, but asking my company to pass the silverware wasn't so enjoyable and splitting a check at Grist is not so easy so bring cash if that's what you intend to do. Tiffy paid the bill and we bought all the extras! I hope their new restaurant has table service. A little advice to the owners, "when paying $30 a person for a small serving plate one must have wait staff! But that's just a personal opinion, I suppose and I am old soul after all.

The pastas were very irresistible and fresh! That's what the other girls chose! Yet they were lacking some protein if you ask me and the portions were rather small. That dinner plate could have used a slice of bread to fill it up. I would have also liked to see some roasted chicken on the menu. I have to watch my red meat intake these days though I did consider the lamb ๐Ÿ– I chose to eat a ๐Ÿฅ— instead โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน (Doctors orders) I had the cauliflower soup ๐Ÿฒ and a meatball! Those meatballs are quite delicious.

Whoever came up with the name GRIST is brilliant! I love it! Though I prefer the 2nd meaning of the word over the mill and I find it rather useful. I am looking forward to my next mill at Grist ๐Ÿ˜‰ Though it will most likely be for lunch, I know I will be back for dinner too! Who knows, Perhaps a cooking class as well! The owners are very good people! "

Vegetarian options: The healthy desserts are my favorite! I love the fresh fruit soup desserts lol I don't know their real name but that's what my family calls it! The raspberry was my favorite but Bella liked the mixed berry better and that pineapple one oh my I had to save some for later and it went well with the pineapple and ginger elixir. Actually that elixir may be my new favorite!

Dietary restrictions: Grist can accommodate your dietary needs.

Parking: The owners are quite lovely and their staff is incredible! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’›

Kid-friendliness: If you do take a small child for dinner then you should put that in the details of your reservation so Sara can seat you accordingly. A high top table isn't the best choice for a small child but if that's all they have available then I would gladly take it! But I recommend getting a babysitter and taking dinner home for small children or perhaps a lunch date instead.

AMAZING!! Out of town & a good friend suggested this place, I 100% see why. I had lunch & dinner, separate days, both were phenomenal & the atmosphere was great. I will recommend this to anyone who comes close to Dayton.

Only been twice, but both times were amazing. The food was picture perfect and tasted amazing. The second time we went I had to order two things because I just couldn't help myself with how delicious the descriptions sounded. Definitely a must go in Dayton!

Grist is hands down some of the best pasta I've ever had in my life (and I've been to Italy several times!) Every time I've come there I have been blown away by how good it is. I cannot recommend this place more to people!

I came to Grist a few years ago after they opened. I remember the meal like it was yesterday, especially the ovo ravioli. Without exaggeration, it was one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life. The experience left an impression.

I just returned after a long time and the place is exactly the same: just outstanding. The staff is phenomenal. Each person plays every role and they are all very attentive. The food is without question the best Italian I've had stateside. Really. This time I had the artichoke and crab risotto with saffron butter. Unbelievably delicious.

One heads-up: the ordering process is a bit different. You can order with your phone (QR code) or up at the counter, but the staff doesn't always come to you for orders. Ordering is very much at your own speed, which is nice. That said, once any order is in, the preparation is efficient and perfectly timed. Just to be specific, the food is brought to your table. All that said, if you need something specific at your table, you can just raise a hand and someone is there very quickly.

Great for date nights and small parties. Grist is a gem.
Do not skip dessert.
