I was really looking forward to trying Marion’s pizza as several of my friends and coworkers swore it as the best pizza in Dayton.
Upon arriving, my first impression was the place looked dirty and grungy … sort of like the inside of a 1990s Pizza Hut.
You order your food at the counter instead of having a server. The menu was easy to read on the wall behind the register, and paper menus were available as well if you wanted to stand off to the side to think about what you wanted to order.
I ordered a 9” pepperoni & sausage (I was also told that their sausage crumbles are the best sausage of any pizza place). The 9” pizzas were almost all $9.50 for one topping and $0.75 per additional topping … so mine was $10.25, which was not horrible at all.
After ordering my pizza, I asked to order a drink, only to be informed that the register where you order pizza at only accepts payment for food, and if I wanted a drink I had to go down a bit to the beverage station. This wasn’t the end of the world, but it was more annoying than anything having do 2 separate transactions … just accept payment for nonalcoholic fountain drinks at your food counter.
I ordered a drink from the counter, they had options for fountain drinks or individual cans. It was $2.09 per 12oz can or 24oz fountain soda. I think a 12oz fountain soda was $1.09 .. so fair drink prices.
My pizza was ready in about 12-15 minutes, which wasn’t horrible. The staff announces your order number over the PA and then you go back to the counter to pick up your food; so you have to be paying attention.
I picked up my pizza as soon as my number was called. The pizza looked fantastic, I loved the way it was sliced, and I couldn’t wait to try it. Upon taking my first bite I noticed that the pizza was warm, but not hot like a typical pizza. Luckily I eat fast or my pizza would’ve been cold before finishing. I was not too thrilled about the overall temperature of the pizza.
Temperature aside, the pizza itself just wasn’t good. To me it tasted like an upgraded version of Totino’s frozen pizza. It was very bland and overall nothing special. I’d eat it again if it was available for free at an event of some sort because I love pizza, but I won’t be rushing back to purchase another pizza from them.
I did like the thin flaky crust (I’m normally not a big thin crust fan, but this was my favorite part of their pizza). The sauce had minimal flavor, the cheese was fine, was the pepperoni was normal, and the sausage was incredibly bland… it was just there hardly any flavor at all. It was also in the shape of ground beef/ground sausage. It wasn’t the sausage crumbles that I was thinking it would be.
Overall it was a big let down. Maybe they had a bad day, but I did not understand the hype or how Marion’s pizza got voted the best pizza in Dayton. There are definitely better options out there in Dayton/Cincinnati market.

Full disclosure - Grew up in NYC, live in NJ. Have had pizza from Frank Pepe's in New Haven to Del Rossi's in Philadelphia and beyond. So yeah, I am prejudiced. But did want to be fair So, maybe this is an Ohio 'thing'. But I have absolutely NO IDEA what this is supposed to be. Pizza is round. Pizza is moist. Pizza is cut into slices. Toppings are not haphazrdly added. This 'pizza' had none of the above. And yet, Marion's was highly recommended. No offense to everyone in Ohio. I do like visiting for both business and pleasure. Have had some excellent meals. Just will NEVER order a pizza again
Easily in my top 2 for Dayton pizza! Love the sausage. Atmosphere is always cool. Dinning area gives the outside Italy vibe.

I had missed that the Super Cheese Pizza was NOT actually a cheese pizza. That's on both of us. But on the online order form (and here btw) the images for the cheese pizza are actually of pepperoni, meaning I completely glossed over them, and the images for Super Cheese are misleading at a glance. That's on them. Please fix your images, and please update the name to reflect what's actually on it.
Service was so so because I had to call to ask for no mushrooms on a different pizza because they don't allow comments on the online order form.

I really like that I was able to get half of a small pizza. I've never been able to do that at any pizza parlor before this.
The Pizza was delicious, the salad was a miss for me, but the atmosphere was very family friendly and had a 80s feel was definitely welcoming I would recommend updating the restaurant. The Pizza had a lot of flavoring and didn't taste like school pizza at all. This is is a great pizza restaurant if you like original Italian pizza, this makes me proud that there are restaurants that make such good Italian pizza. 5-stars
Quite disappointed that they discontinued their lasagna-- the only edible thing on the menu.
Their pizza is the Red Baron or Tombstone of Detroit style pizza. Dry, flat crust. Very dry with little sauce....
This place is a hard pass.

Everything was great.
Dayton's best pizza for 45 years. Or more. Local meats, fast. Usually at least half full of customers.
