Stopped into Val’s Bakery and immediately loved the vibe of the place — warm, inviting, and really well done. We ordered the Strawberry Tiramisu Cold Brew and the Salty Honey Rose Latte. Both were okay — not bad, not great — but they didn’t quite live up to their descriptions. The flavors were more subtle than expected for drinks with such bold names. We also tried two chocolate bon bons, which were fine but nothing special. For food, we ordered the honey mustard sausage roll, which was actually really good. It tasted more like Dijon than honey mustard and would’ve been even better served warm — but still a solid choice. The clear standout was the Strawberry mascarpone pain au chocolat. Flaky, balanced, and absolutely the star of the visit. That one alone is worth going back for. Overall: loved the atmosphere, had a mix of hits and misses, but when they get it right, they really get it right.

I had a review on here from a while ago where I wasn’t too impressed with a matcha/croissant. The owner emailed me a gift card and I had used it in October of 2025 and was really taken aback by how much of a better experience I had. I can’t remember what all I got, but I came back for more Friday! I picked out a few things to surprise a foodie friend for their birthday and also treated myself to the maple cardamom knot (I wish that was a year round item, I absolutely inhaled that thing!) I also snagged a blueberry orange muffin as well as a maple iced latte. I’m so glad I gave this spot another chance. Staff was super friendly, they always are. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Lovely shop! It looks smaller on the outside than it is on the inside, and they have outdoor seating if the weather allows for it. The atmosphere inside the shop was modern neutral colors, very cozy. The food is practically eye candy, it looks just about as good as it tastes. Personally the portions were a little on the big side, with how flavorful they were it can be hard to eat it all in one sitting. Would definitely like to come back here and to the surrounding area!
The best of the best! You can’t go wrong with anything here. It sets the bar extremely high and is my gold standard for pastries. Price has increased and size has decreased a bit over the years as with everything, but the effort and time put into them is well worth it.

Dayton downtown got an amazing uplifted inclusive modern cafe where taste meets classy with standard experience. Definitely a go to place and you may have to preorder certain pastries as they run out faster due to their amazing taste.
