I went the Van Buren Room while visiting Dayton and quickly began to wonder what took me so long to stop in. The lovely space might've been enough to impress me, but it quickly became tertiary to the friendly service and expert cocktails. I ended up taking with me a bottle of their own Belle of Dayton gin, and as I drink it now at home, I dare not risk masking its glorious flavor by putting it in anything more complicated than a G&T. Do they make vermouth as fine as the Van Buren Room gin so I can mix a martini? Can't wait until I'm back in Dayton.

Cool chill cocktail bar. Interesting and novel selection of drinks on the menu. Had an old fashioned. Was great because it was made as a sipper. I didn’t have the urge to chug it like I usually do. Seemed to have a good crowd of regulars. Servers kept my water full.

Great drinks, mediocre service. I've had two bad experiences here, first I went and looked through the menu and couldn't find what I wanted so I asked the bartender for a suggestion, the guy scoffs at me and tells me "that's not my job" and throws a menu at me. I honestly thought that was the EXACT job of a bartender, to know your menu and offer service. The other I won't even say because it enrages me to no end.
Suffice to say, great drinks, need better service training.

Ian is a master of mixology. Please ask for him. This place is warm and inviting. Even the cocktail menu is gorgeous (if your vegan, you won't be amused). Leather embossed and very creative. With a litany of fresh ingredients, lore of the establishment, and the warm kindness of the professional staff, you can't go wrong. *Just don't ask for Chopin vodka*
