Wheat Penny is a wonderful place to go if you're looking to accommodate a wide variety of allergies or dietary restrictions. When I had a big group of family visit that had various soy, gluten, and dairy allergies, I called or emailed at least a dozen restaurants and Wheat Penny was the ONLY place in Dayton that could accommodate everyone's allergies. They had an entirely separate allergy menu with a variety of options for everyone. Both the allergen-friendly items AND the regular items were delicious!

Pepperoni gumbo was amazing. The gnocchi was delicious as well as the pasta . Very affordable.

if you are loving dark meat like thighs you must try the crispy brick chicken thighs. they are cooked under a brick until crispy and have to say most tender meat with sides. Also must try the homemade desserts.

Loved this place ! I had a lunch antipasto and it was outstanding. The best one I have ever had! Our server was excellent and the dining experience could not have been better ! Yay ! I will be back.

The eggplant fries as an appetizer were good. My chicken parm sandwich was okay at best; the chicken was good but bland, very little sauce, the oil and rosemary in the bread bun was too overpowering. The jo-jo fires were bad. They were very starchy and the seasoning was thrown on after the fact with a lack of salt. It tasted like biting into a warmed potato.
My wife's turkey Lightfoot was just as underwhelming. The chibatta bun was lacking in flavor and tasted like biting into a sack of flower. The turkey itself was okay at best. Her jo jo fires were just as bad as mine.

Honestly, I hate to write this review, but I feel I must. The first several times we came we were blown away! The last several times we’ve been ignored. Our service has been horrible and my daughter‘s $42 steak was overcooked and my husband salad tasted like vinegar when he got the ranch. We went last night at dinner time and sat at the high top next to the bar. We were celebrating my husband‘s birthday and my daughter‘s birthday. There were five of us. Our waitress just left. We never saw her again after we got our food. No drinks were refilled, nobody checked on us. My daughter steak she ordered medium and it was so well done she didn’t eat half of it. But there was nobody to talk to about it because no one came to check on us or refill our drinks. I was so upset by the time we left because it was supposed to be a great evening. We spent $240. The only thing I can think and we all can think is that she knew she was gonna get a tip because there was five of us so she didn’t worry about earning it. Sad really.

Simply FANTASTIC all around.
The food was delicious, quickly prepared, and ready for pickup when my date and I arrived.
Thank you for the numerous vegetarian and gluten free options.

Vegetarian options: The Eggplant Parmesan is excellent, to the point where I was excited to be eating it for lunch the next day.

We (5) went here for lunch before my brother’s wedding and I think ultimately we were all disappointed. To start the menu is very boring and really expensive, which Isn’t normally that big of a deal to me. But everything took a good while to get to the table, and overall we spent about 2 hours at the restaurant. The food was decent but not great, certainly not worth the price point. There were some good things though, service and drinks. Our server was very kind and accommodating to when we wanted to get drinks and when we ordered food. The two cocktails we got were really good as well, very smooth and not super overpowering.
