Went here for a special dinner outing and it didn’t disappoint. The place is very historic. It felt like I traveled back in time. Each room of the restaurant is unique and interesting. The food is incredible and I highly recommend the elk.

Always an amazing experience! If you love history, cool environment, and outstanding food, this is your place. Ask about the American flag they have!

I absolutely love this place. Takes me back to the 18th - almost 17th century days of horse drawn carriages and canal boats! And the food! Simple walleye on rice pilaf - as good as the best New York restaurants. Falls apart on your fork and melts in your mouth. So delicious - there's no describing it. Sauce cooks down into the rice. It's all in the sauce. Even the rice is so good.
Service very attentive, yes.
Drove 45 min to get here. I've got to get back here more often.

Oh I love these posh restaurants, it’s so rare when the elite get to dine with the criminal element. For example County Treasurer Bryan Blakeman is a regular at events, with his criminally convicted cleaning lady, I mean fiancé. She was hired originally as the cleaning lady but then Blakeman abandoned his family for, Betsy “home wrecker” Theodore, who started sleeping with the GOP vice Chair around the same time the new GOP Princess was fighting her criminal charges and pursuing her frivolous lawsuit against law enforcement. Both of which failed miserably. But Bryan B-Diddy Blakeman is the tax collector, and Ms. Theodore does owe over $20,000 dollars in sales tax she collected and never paid into the county, so he’s taking her to task, on her back, which is in my opinion a punishment all its own. But these are owner Dave Johnson’s closest friends so we will not discuss any of that, but the foods wonderful

This is one of my favorite places to go for a special meal. It's a beautiful historic building to explore and the staff has always been excellent.

Amazing food, services, and atmosphere. Our server Tasha was so tentative, kind, and knowledgeable of the menu. She was taking care of a large party and still managed to never skip a beat with us. From soups, to entrees, and drinks everything came out perfect. Can’t wait to go back!

Service and food were amazing on our Wednesday lunch! Butternut squash soup, mozerella appetizer, crab and shrimp crepes - yummy! Waitress awesome! But only 4 tables used during our 90 minute lunch were in a tiny corridor that lead to a dark door that was all closed up instead of using the main room with fireplace or the other large room. Only 2 reservations were listed when we arrived, so the ambiance of this amazing place was totally lost on us. We were celebrating a special birthday as well. The fire was going on a rainy day and we could neither see it or feel it. If you go, call ahead and make a reservation asking for a table in the main room with the fireplace or don't go at all! There were PLENTY of empty tables! Disappointed that our $130 meal was spent in a dark corner.

We arrived early for our reservation but we're immediately taken to our table. As soon as we arrived, a Hella house racket erupted. Clearly some kind of industrial work was being done on the outside of the dining room. There were three full tables and those people immediately got up to complain. The noise lasted 45 minutes and absolutely ruined the dining experience. No apologies. No comp. Nothing.
We ordered. Both got onion soup and a prime rib sandwich. The soup was average. The sandwich came. It was served on sliced and toasted sandwich bread. The prime rib was nice but the sauce was non-existent. The side was cold soggy French fries with a small bowl of catsup. All in all the meal was below average. When combine with the noise and the staff's disdain, I'll never go here again. Period.
Tavern is buried in the center of Hanoverton. Main entrance is the back door.
If the industrial work was planned, they should have told us when we made the reservation. If it was an emergency, offer another solution. But to mis-handle it and then serve a below average meal just shows the disdain they have for their clientel.
