Overpriced, sub par food and poor service, how’s that for a recommendation?
Great customer service! Food was AMAZING! More on the expensive side, they accommodated our kiddo very well!
What an awesome place to stay! Beautifully decorated with antiques and memorabilia. Our room (the Van Buren room) was small but very comfortable. Ice cold water and delicious cookies awaited in our room. Service was excellent. Staff were attentive and always available to answer questions or address needs.
Dinner was superb. Again, attentive, friendly staff. A warm, inviting atmosphere in the tavern, and the little courtyard garden is a real treasure. Breakfast was delicious, served in the tavern , with coffee cups filled regularly, and bacon unlike any I have ever had. 5 stars!
I hope we stay there again in the future. A little out of the way, in a small, quaint village, but well worth a few extra miles to get there. Enjoyed the porch swing, beautiful flowers, and elegant, oldtime ambience!
Spread Eagle has always been a favorite restaurant. The magical setting and incredible history here draws me back every time I'm anywhere near. This time I stayed in one of the 5 period decorations guest rooms. Every detail is perfect!
Awesome food. And great service!
We just went for dinner so we didn't go to the rooms The food looked great but it wasn't as warm as it should have been. My Walleye tasted a little fishy. The sauce that was on it was delicious and it helped with the fishy taste. I didn't send it back but I was a little disappointed because it was a couple of years since I was there last and I was looking forward to going there. I will give it another try some day soon.
Loved our food here. We both had the prime rib special with green beans and mash. The mash had an odd aftertaste so I didn’t eat more than two bites. The beans were perfectly cooked. We also had the smoked salmon and bacon deviled eggs and even took two ordered to go for breakfast. I had crème brûlée for dessert while he had apple crisp. We are planning on going back next weekend. Our server was amazing as were the other staff members we encountered.
The service, atmosphere and food were all fantastic!
An unforgettable dinner and atmoshpere
Everyone was very courteous. The food was amazingly prepared. We drove 2.5 hours to experience the history and ambience and it was worth it to us.
Restaurantji Recommends
Good food don’t get me wrong the atmosphere is great but.. let’s be real.. that steak isn’t worth 65 bucks.
Location is a bit off the beaten track. Wouldn't just stumble upon it, would be going there because of recommendation. That being said, go there!!! Delicious, well presented, food. Impeccable service. Cozy and quaint feeling, with a bit of a romantic feel as well. You won't be sorry you tried it.
Did not stay at the inn. Dined with them in the late evening. Had a little confusion finding their building. Their sign just off the street was in a parking lot with various homes around it. Called to figure out where they were. They said they get that often...?
We were seated at a lovely white tablecloth covered table fir 2 in a historic, rustic dining room. Our service was very good. We had the perogies and osso buck and they were both excellent. Very good selection of wines and cocktails. We'll definitely go again when in the area.
We've been enjoying lunches and dinners at the Spread Eagle Tavern for years. Typically the quality of their dishes and their service is great. Today, we invited another couple who had yet to visit the restaurant, to join us there for lunch. Unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. When we arrived, there were only 3 other tables being served by 2 servers. But I noticed throughout the meal, there were a number of other people in the restaurant interacting with the staff which seemed to distract them from their primary task of properly preparing and serving meals to customers. This may have contributed to our server forgetting to put in a soup order for us, which threw off the timing of the meal service, likely resulting in my Chicken Wellington being served too dry to enjoy. It tasted like they may have reheated the dish in a microwave. I realize that no restaurant can deliver 100% to their customers on every visit. So I'm hoping that this visit was a 'one-off' and that the next time we decide to drive 35 miles to have a great dining experience, we won't be similarly disappointed.
We have been going here for the last 35 years for special occasions, dining with friends, staying overnight when we've received gift cards, etc. I can honestly say that I've never had a sub par meal here. Love the history of the place too.
