I’m writing this review with a heavy heart. I grew up in Hubbard, Ohio, and for as long as I can remember, my family has used The Gentry for catering. It’s always been a part of our family gatherings, holidays, and special occasions—especially their gentry chicken. So when I started planning my wedding reception, even though I now live in California, there was no question in my mind: I wanted Gentry chicken.
Unfortunately, the experience I just had was beyond disappointing. When I called to let them know I no longer needed the pans of chicken—because the price had jumped from $85 to $150 in just two weeks—I was met with nothing but attitude. Mary Beth, the person who returned my call, had one of the worst tones I’ve ever experienced in customer service. No understanding, no courtesy, just condescension.
I wasn’t asking for a discount or arguing the increase—I simply couldn’t justify the price hike and made other arrangements. But instead of professionalism or grace, I got unnecessary attitude. After decades of loyalty, this is how a longtime customer is treated?
For anyone else considering catering chicken from The Gentry, I want to share this: you can get the exact same chicken—called Laura’s Chicken—from Mr. D’s for just $87 a pan. Same taste, drastically better price, and much better customer service.
I never thought I’d say this, but after this experience, I won’t be using The Gentry again. It’s sad to see a place I grew up loving lose touch with its loyal customers.

We recently had our father’s 90th birthday party there. From first booking it through the end, it was a lovely event. Mary Beth and her crew were super accommodating, attentive to our guests and friendly. We had lots of out of town family and friends,and everyone raved about the food. All in all the party was perfect thanks to the Gentry. 😊

We had our wedding this past Saturday and they truly exceeded every expectation. Marybeth communicated with us several times before the wedding to make sure she had everything together we needed. The staff was so friendly and helpful. They kept themselves busy and did way more then they were asked to do! The food was amazing! Please get the Italian greens!! I can't express how happy I am with their service or how smooth and easy they made everything! They are phenomenal!!

My fiance made an appointment for us to meet and look at the hall and go over menu options and pricing and the manager / owner was no call no show. Received a phone call the following day and was quite Disturbed to find out that I was being yelled at and borderline scolded for the fact that something had come up whether it be important or not it does not matter. If you cannot make an appointment you need to call and let the customer know but instead I was basically yelled at and it was most likely due to the fact that I left a very pleasant but to the point voicemail stating that I was going to take my business elsewhere since we were blown off for our appointment.

Been here on several Christmas parties , the Hospitality is great, food was very, very good. The host, the McFarlands & Shenango Valley, Penn Ohio, ministerial and others made it so wonderful. Great environment
