We had a wonderful, private dinner event at Carlo & Johnny last weekend. There were 11 of us in our party and most of us had never been to C&J before (we live in Hyde Park and typically frequent the Precinct and Ruby’s locations). We loved our first experience at C&J. This historic property was beautiful and well-appointed, the service was top notch, and as always, the steaks were terrific and the wine list was extensive! It was a great evening in the burbs!

Another of Jeff Ruby's world-class eateries. Everything, here, oozes of classic opulence & nostalgia...From the valet parking to the attention to detail in each bite of the steak,, Carlo & Johnny exceeds your expectations of what Fine Dining should be. The prices aren't for the faint of heart, nor the light in the wallet. Be ready to enjoy some of the best food in the Tri-State area and forget about what it costs....just treat yourself & indulge in culinary excellence.

My first time. Ambiance from entrance to seating was impressive with the decor. My request was granted with no problems where to sit, since I arrived early from reservations. What it lacked for me was the cleanliness, dust was visible from seating to bathroom. Service was fair, but could have been better with attendance, and did not receive that experience til the end of dinner. Food is what U see here on the photo, too much salt on everything, noodles were not cooked well. I did like the mashed potato & corn.

The service was wild. Our waiter could’ve given a masterclass in catering to the whims of the over-privileged. Plus, there were so many assistant servers buzzing around, it felt like a beehive in tuxedos. The manager even checked on us, which was nice considering we were basically paying his rent.Bobbie ordered a shrimp cocktail appetizer with prawns the size of small lobsters. Ironically, she prefers the dinky ones from the grocery store. Go figure. Our half salads were...well, half salads. Nothing to write a Yelp epic about. For the main event, we both went with filet mignon. Bobbie got the “petite” cut named after Anthony Munoz. Since when is an NFL legend considered petite? Still, the steak was tasty. I got the barrel cut filet, ordered medium. It arrived closer to ‘blue mooing on the plate’, but I’m not picky. The dogs certainly weren’t complaining about the leftovers. We also split some charred Brussels sprouts (overrated) and a loaded baked potato (underwhelming). But then, the waiter tempted us with tales of the legendary Butter Pie. Calories? What calories? We shared a piece, and let me tell you, THAT was the highlight. So good, I considered licking the plate like a Labrador.Overall, a memorable experience I’d never pay for myself. If anyone out there feels like playing culinary sugar daddy/mama, we’re totally available. Otherwise, I’ll stick to perfecting my steaks at home with my trusty sous vide. After all, no steak is worth a month of eating ramen.

Absolutely amazing. From the food to the service. Best steak I have ever had.
The steaks are delicious, there's lots of history both in and on the walls of the restaurant, wait staff was knowledgeable about the menu and professional and there are shareable sides to help top off your experience here

Wonderful experience as usual. PJ was our server and she was awesome. Her assistant was great too. Can't say enough good things. On another note 2 of the other tables near us were the most pretentious a-holes you'd ever see. "My perrier water is not chilled correctly". "The lettuce in my salad is not perfect". Blah blah blah. The way PJ was treated was horrendous. Once again our experience was great. Thanks again for a great night.
We came in to celebrate my grandmothers birthday. Samantha, I believe, was so amazing! The steak collinsworth was to die for. We had a fabulous time.

New York strip with roasted garlic butter was great. Baked Macaroni and cheese was amazing. Had the butter pie which was good however I'm not sure about the hype over it. Very cool atmosphere, very romantic. The service was great.

I took my wife here to celebrate her birthday and she loved it ! We dont go out much to fancy restaurants so we always feel a little uncomfortable but the staff here made us feel welcomed and appreciated.
