The staff was very nice but the food was so underwhelming, I would not spend money here again. The mahi tacos were so bland. The marinated carne asada- I would not know that it was marinated. It didn’t taste bad, it just really didn’t have much flavor at all. Just calories. I was really underwhelmed by the lack of flavor across dishes. My husband got enchiladas and he said it was very much just like melted shredded cheese on top.. he said it reminded him of melting cheese on chips in the microwave for a snack. Tlaquepaque in Heath, I never have a bad meal and the depth of flavor is always there. Sad to report, was hoping for another place to frequent

The restaurant was really pretty and the staff were friendly. However, I felt the food was very blend and not flavorful as Mexican food. The rice was blend as well as the tacos I ordered. The salsa could use more spices to make it more flavorful.

I highly recommend Mariposa based on their service, drinks and atmosphere! Our server was BEYOND amazing and went overboard to accommodate our big party including a wild toddler! The atmosphere itself is beautiful and a very nice place to go for an evening out! The highlights for me as far as the menu go were the skinny margarita and the salsa that is served with their chip.ls. The rest of the menu is okay-the portions are not huge and they are priced between $10-$25 from what I remembered and based on what you got. The taste itself is just fine. You can certainly get better Mexican in the area but I would recommend Mariposa for drinks, atmosphere and amazing service!

Went here for lunch with my boyfriend and his dad, food was really fresh and tasted great. Nice location, very clean and well decorated interior. The new owner was very friendly and I hope they continue to do well there! Pictures taken on digital camera.

Great food and the service was slow due to only having 2 servers for the entire restaurant.

My wife and I stopped in for a date night, first since our baby was born almost 9 months ago. Immediately we were impressed by the atmosphere and the friendly greeting by the staff. Steph was our server and also appeared to be bartending. She was upbeat, friendly and attentive.
My wife got the Mariposa margarita which she enjoyed. We each got two different tacos and the potato appetizer. It was perfect amount of food and the price was appropriate. We will definitely be back!

Portions were smaller than expected, extremely long wait time to get food, had to ask for drink and chip refills, and some but not all of the food items were not flavorful. We did have a large group, but at the time there was only one other table in the entire restaurant. Our server was friendly, but not overly attentive. We loved the atmosphere and decor, but sadly won't be returning.

It's my favorite restaurant in Newark! The homemade salsa is amazing! Lots of great cocktail options too, and the price point is fair. I really hope the new owner keeps it on the same path. Such a nice gem along the square. They have a few 4 topper outdoor tables as well. The food is fresh and doesn't taste like a lot of Mexican chain restaurants that all have the same menu, but it's not so hipster you leave hungry.

Authentic delicious Mexican. I like to call it “Gourmet” Mexican.

Mariposa is the only thing I ever want for dinner anymore. The birria has changed my life for the better. The pinto beans are possibly the absolute best beans I've ever eaten. And to top it all off, Jen the bartender is so welcoming as is the rest of the staff. Honestly the only thing that could possibly make it better is live music...

Frozen margaritas are back and our #1 bartender, Jenn is serving with her amazing smile and enthusiasm!! Great food and atmosphere!!
