After a few bad experiences, and against my better judgment my wife and I decided to give Kogen's one more shot tonight. After sitting for 15 minutes and asking for a waiter, the waiter finally showed up and took someone else's order before leaving us waiting again. He was too busy socializing with friends while the hostess played on her cell phone. The owner needs to realize the food is not nearly good enough to provide terrible service. That is why they had only two tables with customers (four total people) at 6:00 on a Saturday night. Plenty of good restaurants around with better food. We will not be back.

Way over priced for subpar food. Sushimi came out slightly frozen, not fresh. Service was not on point..you have to chase people down for refills. Go to Royal Ginger instead..

I've probably been to Kogen‘s 30 times over the past several years and never once had a bad meal. Sushi is always great and I highly recommend the Naruto which is on their special menu instead of the sushi menu for some reason. I've probably had Sushi at 20 places in the greater Columbus area, and I would put Kogens in the top three. Despite what some other reviewers say, I have never experienced rude or truly bad service. I think some ignorant reviewers confuse employees struggling with a language barrier as rudeness, but I really don't think that is their intent. That being said, I have experienced slightly slow service there during peak hours, but I would rather be seated and wait a little while for my server as opposed to waiting an hour for a table at many other restaurants in Powell over the weekend.

Initial review (4/2017) Usually really good sushi, but almost always rude staff. This last time, got takeout. Used a groupon, which was specified for takeout. The hostess was rude and yelled at me "Last time only!" (the first & only time I've used a groupon there). Worst of all, the tuna was old - it was warm, grey, & fishy. Updated review (2/2018): Thought we'd give it another try, as the food is usually excellent. The restaurant supposedly closes at 10:30pm on Saturday nights. Showed up at 10:00pm and was told we could not be served because the kitchen was closed. Literally saw staff making rolls for each other and other staff smoking outside. Food here is usually great, but the service is HORRIBLE. Every. Single. Time.

This is an unfortunate and difficult review to author. I was a frequent customer of Kogen's when it opened ~10 years ago. I had not been there in five years until last night. The booth we sat in was filthy, specifically the upholstered backing. The sushi was sub-par. The avocado in one roll was brown and another roll had jalapeno seeds that were almost black. I hope management takes this review seriously, takes action and returns it's level of service to it's glory days.
