We traveled to this art museum today just to see it. Unfortunately several rooms were under refinishing and preparing for new art. In no spite of that, we liked it. It's a small art museum but given that we saw some great pieces. The first room wasn't impressive, it appeared as though the artist repurposed 'junk' to create his gallery. We didn't stay long in this room. The others displayed local artists and pieces that the museum owned. It was worth the trip.

Great place to sit, think, admire, and get away from politics and all the animosity.

A gem in our little town! We need to be talking this place up! The quilt exhibit just about took my breath away, I was so overwhelmed by a glimpse of our possibilities. The docent was amazing, and folks we met there, exhibited the unique cohesiveness of Springfieldians when we get together.

Small but lovely museum. They are very welcoming.

It is both educational and enjoyable. One can also learn by doing - taking classes there. And Lunch on the Lawn is an awesome treat as well - listening to local music while eating.

A nice museum with pleasant gallery space. Located a few blocks from downtown, a nice 30-60 minutes to visit a handful of galleries, more than half of the space devoted to special exhibits so this would be a good periodic visit to see new things. I was pleasantly surprised to discover art from the local Frankenstein family and local landscape paintings. The museum faces the parking lot. Enter in the center; front desk is to the left, next to the art gallery space. Returning to lobby, center if building has community space and an art library. Right-hand side of building has a works on paper exhibit and classroom / studio space. I love seeing student art so this is always a 'must see' space when available. Parking is free. Small admission charge or free for members (including members of reciprocal museums-have your card in your wallet) Check the website to confirm hours to plan your visit.

The museum is very small, but well laid out and can be seen within 45 mins. The best part was the artwork done by the students from ohio...all ages. Absolutely wonderful variety of works...very talented teens.

I drove down from Cleveland to see the Charlie and Eddie Harper collections. I was so impressed with the scope of the museum. The community must surely benifit from the museum focus on children with many classrooms and activities.

We've been coming here for many years but recently they have had very interesting exhibits. Some local shows but also Smithsonian sponsored material, too. Worth a visit!

For small museum they have a nice collection. It is a hidden gem for sure. We enjoyed the Art 360°: Contemporary Art Hatching Across Ohio exhibit in January 2018.

So I'm in Springfield again for the day. What to do? What to do? Hm. Let's give the Springfield Museum of Art another try. First of all, there was a better selection of art in their main gallery this time. Nothing too interesting but nothing too boring either. I probably spent about 20 minutes in the museum this time. It cost me $5 so it was worth it. The guy at the front desk is really pretty nice. He will try to get you a discount by being a senior citizen, AAA or museum member. He's very nice and pleasant just like the last time. My only real gripe this time and it's a pretty big one, is the grounds. They are really getting unkempt. Bushes need pruning, no flowers or any sign of gardening anywhere. From the outside, it's starting to look abandoned. Debris all over, a couple beer cans on the lawn with a bottle thrown down too. Sidewalks were in need of a good blowing as they were covered with some sort of tree bark. Maybe it's time to do a local gardeners day. Call it "Gardeners for SMA Day" or something. Down by the water way next to the building ( which is very nice from a distance ) has dog crap all over. Seriously. Dog crap all over the lawn and the stones. A couple hundred droppings I'm guessing. Thank goodness I didn't step into any of them. It's disgusting. I think Springfield can do better than this.
