El Toro Mexican Bar & Grill

I love Mexican food, and authentic is the best. I came here because I had a taste for tacos and enchiladas. The atmosphere was great, staff was friendly and attentive. The prices were good. The food however was not good at all. I ordered a #1 dinner combo plate. One enchilada two tacos and rice with a Pepsi. Chips and salsa were brought out and were tasty and fresh. The dinner came out in decent time, consisting of two enchiladas and one taco. I had asked for chicken. They were “ground beef”. The meat had no taste at all, it was like they took hamburger, cooked it up finely ground, drained it of grease, rinsed it in hot water for a few minutes and then added some extremely weak taco seasoning to it. Very bland. Had to ask for extra sour cream dish just to give it some taste but still couldn’t finish 3/4 of the plate. If it weren’t for the rest of the experience, I’d give one star. On a good note, the rice tasted good. Whatever they did to that ground beef though? Not good at all.

Great server and food portions and quality outstanding!!! Highly recommend over any other Mexican restaurants!

Staff: Very friendly, but the food was cold, oversalted, and greasy.

I came close to closing. Everyone was friendly and assured me it wasn't a problem. The food was phenomenal, without any doubt. Priced very reasonable for the amount of food you get.. Very clean, and professional.. I will definitely be back to try other delicious things on the menu.. Thank you again..

Don't go to Northwoods El Toro today! Waited 20 minutes for someone to take our drink order, and well over an hour for our food to come. When it got to the table it was incorrect. Not the normal El

It's basic tourist Mexican food: tasty, edible, Mexican themed, nothing special flavor wise. Nice atmosphere with good service.

I come here for Taco Tuesday whenever I can make it. Their chicken tacos are amazing! I also occasionally call and place a to-go order just for chips and salsa. The staff are great at their jobs and polite even when they're busy. During crazy rushes, they'll still swing by with more chips, salsa, and drink refills right as you need them. The person who brought us our food tonight (3/4/25) (I'm not sure if they were a server or whether their job was specifically to bring food to the appropriate table) wasn't our server, but still took the time to bring us more chips/salsa when they saw that we had finished them. Would recommend!

On Saturday 3/1 my husband and I arrived at 5:40 pm. The restaurant was maybe at 25% capacity. We asked to sit at the bar. 25 minutes after placing our order the bar tender let us know our food would be out soon. It took 30 minutes to get our food (longer time than it takes to get food at a full capacity Mexican restaurant) Based on the interaction it seemed as if the bar tender forgot to put in our order. The food comes out and then the server bar tender disappears for 20 minutes. I ordered a taco salad that comes with chicken, shrimp, and steak. It only came with steak. But no one came around to check on us the rest of our time there. We had to go get our own to go boxes to be able to leave. When we go to the hostess stand to check out I ask to speak to the manager. I let him know what took place. He just stared at me and offered no apology. I said - so I just want you know the service we experienced and ask what he was going to do to make it right. He grabs a menu and tells me the steak salad that I received was the same price as what I was ordered. Acting as if that was all I cared about, the price was the same. No I wanted recognition that 1) my order was incorrect and then 2) maybe an apology for the poor service. As I am telling him I don’t care about the price, my order was incorrect, a waitress grabs a menu to check the prices and again proceeds to tell me the prices are the same that I am spending the same amount of money. No one wanting to accept that I received the incorrect order and subpar service. After a little back and forth the manager says he will take the meal off our bill. And then GRABS my to go box to keep. It was the most unprofessional encounter at a restaurant I have ever experienced. This restaurant does not care about the customer. They clearly just care about money, if their main argument was that the incorrect order I received was the same price as what I ordered, so I needed to pay and wasn’t owed anything. I won’t be going back and I will be urging others to not give this restaurant any business.

Usually quiet, full bar, excellent service and real food. Small local chain. Chile Colorado was excellent and the prices are fair.

I acknowledged the price difference, and then asked for cheese, rice, and beans on the side. However, he refused, insisting I could only have beans. His tone escalated to yelling, which led me to cancel my order due to unacceptable customer service.
