I am not born and raised in Youngstown. I have a mere 11 years under my belt. But I love this Valley & proudly call it home. And I'm alarmed that many Youngstown natives have NEVER been to The Butler. This museum is first rate and dead red in the center of the YSU campus! Firstly, it LOOKS like a museum from the outside. As a lifer of the Youngstown Ohio area you'd have to be living under a rock to not have heard of The Butler Art Museum. Unfortunately for me I haven't been since 1989. Spent the afternoon taking in all the beautiful works of art. There were so many amazing pieces and some that just sucked me in. Of course I made sure to get a peek of Snap the Whip by Winslow Homer. I took a friend to her first trip to the Butler Institute of Art last week. She was in awe at its size and grandeur. She was only able to see about a third of the museum , but looks forward to returning to see the rest. We both loved the current exhibits, and enjoyed seeing the Wyeth's, Burchfield, Cassat, Rockwell, and Homer paintings. This museum is a perfect place to go for a family outing. It is a beautiful museum that many locals have never explored.
