John and Cooks is tried and true Bbq. Been loving it for a long time. A staple in Lawton. I can't help but go get some when I am in town. Always great
I first stepped into John & Cook’s BBQ in Lawton back in 1982 during my AIT at Fort Sill, and it’s been a cornerstone of my culinary life ever since. Stationed here over the years, I’ve made countless visits, and after retiring in 2014, I settled in Medicine Park—yet I still make the trip for their unmatched flavors. This place is more than a restaurant; it’s a tradition.
The ribs are fall-off-the-bone perfection, smoky and rich, while the brisket is tender and succulent, melting in your mouth with every bite. For lunch, their pulled pork sandwich is a go-to—juicy, flavorful, and piled high. The sides are just as impressive: the potato salad is smooth and creamy, the coleslaw crisp and delicious, and their baked beans? I’m not sure how they do it, but they’re a mystery I’m happy to savor. Lonzo and his crew elevate the experience with their warmth—always personable, always customer-focused. In all the decades I’ve been coming here, I’ve never had a subpar meal. Not once.
John & Cook’s isn’t just BBQ; it’s a Lawton institution that’s stood the test of time. Whether you’re a soldier, a local, or just passing through, this spot delivers consistency and heart in every bite. I’ll keep coming back as long as they’re open—and I hope that’s forever.
Expensive for very dry food and one of the workers keep giving me a dirty look once I said something about it being dry
Best BBQ in Lawton!!
Best bbq in Oklahoma
Mac n cheese is so good
Gotta have some of the lemon cake
Simple real cooking not trying to hard
Great home style bbq! Everything was absolutely on point and tasted great! Definitely making this a favorite!
Terrible service
We knew John and Cook's was going to be good as soon as we got out of the car and could smell that amazing smoky aroma. The food tasted as good as it smelled, the service was fast and held a desirable neighborly charm, and the establishment was clean. 10/10 experience.

My first time dining here and definitely my last. I was highly disappointed with how bland the food tasted. There’s absolute no seasoning on any of the food they serve here. The service was ok and the atmosphere was mediocre. This is not the place for great tasting BBQ. I do not recommend this restaurant.

We came here for lunch on our son's Family Day at Fort Sill. Boy did we make the right decision. First, the food was absolutely delicious and worth it. Second, the 4th generation owner Lonzo, made our meal particularly special and memorable by honoring our son with some wonderful words of gratitude for his service.

Food was excellent! Had our son who just finished Basic Training with us and the owner made a fuss over him. We were really glad we went there for lunch.

Amazing food and the nicest people. We took my son who was graduating from Basic Training at Fort Sill. They treated him with such respect and kindness. Will never forget it.
