We like to try non-chain restaurants when we travel, which can be scary...ya just never know! So on a recent trip home we drove through McAlester, OK and I found this spot while searching. The Yardbird lived up to all of the great reviews, the less than great ones are fairly old, so I didn't pay much attention to those. We were not disappointed at all! Food, service, and atmosphere are all 6/5 stars.

Jess and her brother (presumably the owners?) were taking care of tables. It was me, a local business apparently doing a Halloween lunch in full costume, and a few other locals who all seemed to love the place.

Stopped in to refuel on our way to a camping g trip and sure glad we did. Food is excellent and they have some good beers on tap. The pool room area appears to have all the original woodwork, and is a sight to see. However, the vibe here may be its best asset. Really laid back, cool, and most of all welcoming to everyone. Will be back!
