Amazing selection and staff. We love sitting at the bar and talking with the chefs. It's some of the best sushi around.
Amazing selection of Niguri and sushi. Highly recommend the Sooner roll. Great service!
It was good but their sushi isn't that fresh. Waitress was great.
Very tasty dinner above average sushi. Entree was very good
Akira is a fantastic Japanese restaurant and I love their rolls and especially their katsu curry.
I’m a big fan of Akira but it’s frustrating to get told your food will be ready in 10 to 15 minutes and you show up and still have to wait 20 minutes for your order.
BLUF/SUMMARY: Overall average sushi joint serving up options (like Uni and Omikase) not traditionally available in other Tulsa/local spots. Unfortunately hampered by inconsistencies in fish, rice, and prep quality as well as lack of consistent availability of certain items.
DETAILS: We went on a Saturday night with some close friends. Being a sushi lover myself, as you now know, I was excited to try this place. The Uni and Omikase availability drew me in.
Upon seating and drink orders, I was disappointed that Sapporo or Kirin was not available on tap… bottles it then was. More disappointing was our waiter’s recommendation to not do the Omikase due to “fish only arriving 2x a week on Monday and Thursday” so things wouldn’t be as fresh. Why they weren’t prepared for a Saturday night was beyond me and shows a bit of lack of planning and prep. They were also apparently out of bluefin and another fish I don’t recall. At least the waiter was honest… still, disturbing to say the least.
Thus I ordered a couple of basic rolls to go alongside a handful of nigiri’s, including an Uni (sea urchin) piece that I later found out was $10/piece. Verdict overall on the sushi: decent quality and taste for majority of my order (see attached pic for reference). Main issues were the Uni piece which was a tad discolored and definitely did not taste as fresh as it should. The rice was also disappointing - on the bland side (vinegar to sugar ratio was off) and very sloppy on presentation. Innards of my masago nigiri and rolls were falling out. It just showed a lack of care in prep, a lack of attention to detail with a higher importance put on speed.
I’ve been eating sushi since I was 3… so over 40 years later and eating sushi around the world, I admit my standards are a bit high. Akira unfortunately falls into that “been there done that” category that makes it a bit forgettable. To improve, especially if they are charging at that higher price point compared to other local sushi spots, they need to address consistency, availability, and quality with much better attention to detail.
We were very impressed! Sushi was top knotch and we are sushi snobs. We live in bixby and would not hesitate to drive all the way to Owasso just to eat here. The young Waitress was outstanding.
Drinks are amazing!!
So kind, willing to explain ingredients and make adjustments to their menu. Alwsys yummy and well worth the price!

I haven't even eaten here but I do believe it could be quite delectable.
This restaurant is great. I enjoyed the art on the walls as well as our food. The waiter was very friendly and helped us decide what we would like so that we truly could enjoy our meal.
Why do almost all of their rolls include crab, (fake crab)? Happy Sushi a few miles away had a better selection of rolls. Time to update the menu!
Update: Akira should promote or give Vu a raise.
Vu showed excellent customer service and made me a Akira fan again.
I love Akira and the food but I was so disappointed in the service we received today. I ordered the cucumber salad like I always do. I found a small piece of foil in my salad, not the end of the world, so I fished it out and continued to mix up my salad. As I mixed it up, there was a wet, gross looking whole paper towel in my salad. The waiter was apologetic and brought me out another salad. He said he would let his manager know. She never came out to our table we had to ask to speak to her. When she came out she was not apologetic at all, in fact she was rude stating she was too busy to come talk to us and that she lets her staff handle “unimportant” tasks. I am sorry but having “trash” in a salad is not what I would consider unimportant or small. I think most managers would be embarrassed and very apologetic given the same situation. Should note that this was 2:30 in the afternoon, they were not busy at all.
Very busy during lunch but service was quick and professional. Sushi was fresh and miso soup very good.
