Ordered a Manchurian Potato and never felt so disgusted with food from a restaurant...

Like guys come on you run a restaurant not a bachelor's home kitchen where you use a $2 frozen French fries to make something for which u gonna charge $15 ... when I pay a restaurant price, I expect it to be made with baby potato if not bare minimum with normal potatoes not with freaking frozen French fries which was in frozen lumps with some Manchurian sauces around the lump..

Disgusting.. that was my 1st and last time getting anything from ur place ...

Amazing food for great value! Been here many times, a must stop for us when we are in Ajax. They have a big selection on their menu and I have tried a few different things, have not been dissapointed so far. Their tom yum soup and Manchurian chow mein are my favorites! Highly recommend!

We’ve got take out and dined in a few times here - they might be the best hakka in Durham. Veggies are fresher than any other hakka place (no brown spots & such), flavours are great, and portions are good too.

it’s quite clean inside, although service is a bit cold, but overall highly recommend.

Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options for mains like paneer and tofu

I thought of giving Hakka Passion a try for Chinese/Thai food so ordered a few items - Vegetable Fried Rice, Sweet and Sour Vegetables and Vegetable Pad Thai.

I specifically instructed the restaurant staff that the Vegetable Pad Thai and the Sweet and Sour Vegetables shouldn’t be too sweet and she said she will let the chef know.

I was told that the order will be ready in about 15-20 mins but it actually took about 35 mins. Nevertheless, I picked up my order.

It was time to open the food containers. The moment I opened the Vegetable Pad Thai, it gave a foul smell which was just intolerable. Despite that, I tasted a small bite and it tasted horrible. The look of the dish itself was evident that it was made wrongly. It was so bad that I felt like puking. (I am serious about it). The chef just mixed over-boiled Pad Thai noodles with some red sauce. It seems the restaurant did not know how to make a Pad Thai although they claim they make Thai dishes. I had to throw the entire Pad Thai in the garbage. I called the restaurant and complained about it. The lady started arguing that this is the way they make Pad Thai. It took me a while to convince her that it was just not eatable, that is when she accepted to replace it with some other dish.

For the replacement, the next day, I ordered garlic fish dry just to be safe this time. It was kind of okay but gave a weird aftertaste. At least it was eatable without much issue.

The Sweet and Sour Vegetables was no good in terms of taste. The red gravy had the American chop suey kind of flavour which was not what I expected from this dish. The only good thing was that it had enough veggies but unfortunately that didn’t work either and had to dispose it of as well.

The Vegetable Fried Rice tasted just okay but the rice was a bit hard and dry. There weren’t enough veggies except for a few small pieces of broccoli.

My experience was bad and I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant if you’re craving authentic Chinese/Thai food. There are many other Hakka Chinese restaurants in the area that serve much better quality!

Vegetarian options: The menu does have quite a lot of vegetarian options.

Parking: Parking is available outside the restaurant in the plaza.

2024 November 3.5★
Chicken Manchurian soup $8.95
Soup was good and as expected with unique hints of spicy flavors.

Hakka chow mein - chicken $10.75
Very good flavors. Got that saute flavors you'd expect. Worth getting at this price.

Fish Pakora $14.50
Light and crispy. Not enough spices, but ok.

Crispy beef $13.95
Not bad. Crispy as it says. A bit spicy. A bit salty, but not too much. Great paired with rice.

Overall, not bad. Price to food portions to taste, if you're craving Hakka, not a bad option.

Order the lunch special.

I ordered two seperate dishes and felt the portions were exactly the same as the lunch, maybe less...despite paying $35 with tip. The lunch would of been $20+tax+tip.

We have been ordering regularly (takeout) since we moved to Ajax back in October 2020. Food quality is consistently good. Recently, we have also started dining in, and the food tastes even better while it is served hot. I would highly recommend this spot in Durham for anyone looking for great tasting Indian style Hakka Chinese food.
