One star. I purchased a nearly $90 cake from Nova Era for a very specific custom design. The design was discussed, communicated clearly, and confirmed by phone. There was zero communication afterward. At pickup I was told the custom work was not done. I was given a generic cake and only a $20 refund. That is unacceptable. The cake tasted cheap, with far too much filling and very little actual cake or flavor, on par with a bargain warehouse cake. I have supported this bakery weekly, but I will not be returning. This felt like a complete disregard for the customer. Do not confirm what you cannot do, and when you fail to deliver, make it right.

Staff member I encountered was extremely friendly and helpful. The cake I bought for $34.50, however? AWFUL! I assumed that a cake named after the bakery, The Nova Era would be tastier than ever. Boy was I wrong!! What is advertised as a cake with “chocolate and strawberry mousse”, is actually a vanilla cake held together by a thick layer of chocolate buttercream and a thick layer of strawberry buttercream. Mousse was not in the room with us, sorry! It is so sickly sweet that everyone left half to 3/4’s of their piece of cake!
UPDATED: Had to add a pic of another slice of the same cake to show how inconsistently made it was. Where did the cake go???

If you are looking for a place in Ajax that has AMAZING pastries, breads, cakes, coffee, and tons more....you must go to Nova Era Bakery. This Portuguese bakery is DIVINE. Everything is fresh and delicious. Mouthwatering actually! 👌 The service is excellent. The atmosphere is very pleasant as well. For me, Nova Era is an undisputed 10/10 !

Cashiers blame their bank/machine for charging a $1 surcharge for a $60 charge to a credit card. This is the first establishment I've seen in Ajax that charges a surcharge when using a credit card. The cashier lied that the machine prompted about the surcharge question. A tap was all the machine offered i.e. most definitely the cashier/machine/owner has auto set the surcharge. Although this is only a dollar, imagine if you paid that on every credit card transaction. This is a ripoff. I hope other customers are not blindly tapping like me.

Finally got to visit this bakery, as I was craving for some caramel custard and they had some so thought of giving it a try. It’s a cute little shop filled with different bakery products I would definitely recommend trying it once. I’m glad that I went there as I loved their bakery menu spread and the staffs were very friendly and helped me out selecting the right item I wanted to purchase.
We came across this bakery accidentally and it was an amazing experience. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely go back again.
