Rowdy Bird in Ajax has become one of my regular go-to spots whenever I’m around Ajax. It’s a small, cozy place, mainly focused on takeout orders, but what they lack in size, they make up for in bold flavors and quality food. I’ve tried their chicken sandwiches, tenders, and fries multiple times, and the experience has been consistently great. The fried chicken here is truly a standout, crispy, juicy, and well seasoned, with that perfect crunch that hits the spot most times. The special spice blend they sprinkle on top gives the chicken a unique kick, something between tangy and smoky, which really elevates the flavor.
The fries are another hit, golden, crispy, and perfectly salted. I particularly love their curly fries, those are absolutely fabulous and a family favorite as they pair so well with the chicken.
The only thing that could use improvement is the preparation time. Even when you place an order in advance, it usually takes around 20–30 minutes to get your food ready. So if you’re in a rush, it might test your patience a little. That said, the quality and taste make up for it, and you can tell the chicken is made fresh to order.
All in all, Rowdy Bird Ajax is a hidden gem for fried chicken lovers. The flavors are bold, the chicken is top notch. My family loves it, and it’s one of those places where you can count on the food to be delicious every single time. I’d just recommend planning a bit of extra time for pickup, because once you take that first bite, you’ll know it was worth it.

I ordered a burger on Doordash. It was easily the worst burger I've ever seen. The double 3 ounce patty burger was flattened and over cooked so badly the entire burger was crisp like a chip. It wasn't edible and Doordash refunded my complete order based on the photos I submitted to them. Also, there food is way over priced for being such terrible quality. Their chicken wasn't worth it either. Undercooked and flavorless. You would be better off eating literally any where else.

Rowdy Bird Chicken has become a Friday or Saturday night staple in our house, perfectly fried, juicy, tender, succulent & crispy on the outside, not oily and the pieces are bigger than all other fried chicken available; for us it is the best fried chicken in Ajax and the fries are very tasty, absolutely a must try! We are Jamaican & know good fried Chicken!! The staff is quite pleasant & the restaurant is very clean… most important!

The food takes a while to co.e out truth that's fine they cook fresh. I had the chicken sandwich and the sauce was WWWWaaaayyyy too spicy didn't like it one bit and drenched all over. Suppose to be hot honey I wasnt thinking and said honey thinking they would have just honey. I did not realizing it was SUPER spicy honey i cant taoe some heat but thats insane. Ended up not eating it all. I'm sure the chicken was delicious but couldn't taste it one bit.

Ordered a 45 piece chicken for a small birthday party, guests were both local and from out of town. Chicken was absolutely DELICIOUS and all guests raved! Hands down the best fried chicken in Durham! Thank you Rowdy Bird!! We were regular customers before but will certainly be back!

November 3, 2024 - been here a few times, this is one of the best chicken burgers I’ve ever had. Love the Hot Honey Sauce. The chicken is cooked perfectly!
The wait times are long. Even if you don’t see anyone in the store. Others have already ordered online or ahead of time. I’d recommend you doing the same. We probably waited 30mins or so. But we told the worker that we would go across the street to the grocery store and come back. So he can take his time and not feel rushed.

Chicken was cooked. Poutine was a soup. Chicken sandwich had a stale bun, other ok. They would not serve water, tap also not available. Skip and go to the McDonald’s across the street.
