The Zen Caribbean Restaurant

I was genuinely excited to try Zen Caribbean Restaurant the name promised a relaxing vibe and bold island flavors. Unfortunately, the experience was anything but zen.

Let’s start with the food: I ordered the jerk chicken wing, which somehow managed to be both dry and greasy at the same time. The seasoning was bland, almost like they sprinkled some paprika and called it a day. The rice and peas were mushy and weirdly cold, and tasted like they’d been sitting under a heat lamp since lunchtime.

My friend ordered the pepper shrimp, which we had to send back not because of the flavor (which was forgettable), but because it was mostly soggy, soft and barely any batter on it. When we politely brought it up, the server shrugged and said, “That’s just how it comes.” Seriously?

Speaking of service slow doesn’t even begin to describe it. We waited almost 50 minutes for our food, and during that time, no one checked in on us or offered even a glass of water. The staff didn’t seem rude, just completely disinterested.

Overall, Zen Caribbean was a total letdown. If you’re craving real Caribbean food with soul and spice, this isn't the place. Save your money and your appetite there are better options around.

I went to the restaurant on Thursday at 7 PM, but it was closed—even though Google Maps shows it’s open until 9 PM.

Portions sucked and so did the food quality

This food was probably the best I’ve ever had! Not only was it FRESH but it was literally hot & ready in 10 minutes. I order the chicken wings, the pepper shrimp and the zen special, one with rice the other with noodles. When I tell you the special fed my bf, me and our 8 & 3 yo sons and we still had SO much left overs, it was well worth the money. I loved the shrimp but it was the wings for me 🤤🤤 Highly recommend and I’m in Niagara and will be stopping there every time we are near by.

First time ordering from this Restaurant, the food was fresh hot and flavourful! Uncomparable to other West Indian restaurants in the neighborhood! I’ll be back soon! 5 Stars Baby!!!

Was there for the first time to buy some takeout food for my wife birthday and to tell I did not regret it service was good food was good also the waiting time ok for the food we order

The food is amazing!!!! Great selection and literally no bad option on the menu. Take out or dine in, it's always a great experience. Staff are super friendly and attentive! We love dining in and taking out! It's definitely our go to place!

We ordered chicken chilli fried rice and pepper shrimp. Taste was good for both, i just felt that the chilli chicken pcs were a bit dry. However overall taste, quality and food was really good.

Food always great. Service always great.

Its not a very large place at the Ajax location. Takeout service was excellent, very friendly and welcoming staff. First time trying Zen out, so I went with the Zen Special Fried Rice, Special Low Mein, and the Peppered Shrimp. Overall the Fried Rice and Lo Mein was quite good, but a little on the pricier side compared to other restaurants offering the same dish. The Peppered Shrimp however was very good and I would buy that again. I recommend anyone to try out Zen Restaurant for themselves.
