I’ve been back quite many times but then I just realized last couple times we ordered the lady owner sum it up for god knows what she thought about what we just ordered but 2 burgers with 1fries 1 upgraded to salad, no drink would cost $51. It happened twice now. 2nd time I had to come back and asked what the price for? 2 burgers for $36 + $5 salads upgrade? Plus tax? Where the $51 come from? She said something she has charged too much and gave back $4. Still not added up for what we ordered. I don’t think I would question every time we come in. We won’t be back for sure no matter how good of the burger is. There are many other places with great burgers in Muskoka.

A little disappointed. Drove to Bala from Midland because of the reviews today (Tuesday) it was 1:15 pm and the door was locked.......hmmmm.

I’ve been coming to Bala every summer for the past 4 years, and every single year I make sure to stop at least twice at the Longhouse Grill for THE BEST Halibut and Chips. Period.
I don’t know what magic Christina (the owner) works in the kitchen with that batter, but oh my goodness—it’s perfection. Golden and crispy, yet still perfectly clinging to the tender halibut inside. And while the fish is the star, the creamy coleslaw, savoury gravy, and bacon cheddar burger all deserve an honorable mention too.
All of this deliciousness is possible because of Christina. She works 14-hour days, prepping over 100 burger patties and 100 lbs of halibut every single day—by herself. Every time I’ve been here, she’s been friendly, efficient, detail-oriented, kind, and even manages to keep a great sense of humour through it all.
As for the rare negative comment from “Mike Bush” below—well, let’s just say that if he spent even half a day witnessing the dedication, care, and sheer work ethic Christina brings to this place, I suspect his review would look very different.

I use to come for the Banquet Burger, it was great. But the last 2 visits ,my Burger was way too Charred, Bun was burnt and The Patty was not cooked inside. Please take this as helpful criticism, im willing to come back had great experience my first few times.

Keep in mind it's grill style, not a fancy sit down restaurant. The food was amazing, the service was fast and friendly. My burger was amazing and all 3 of my children ate their meals; buffalo chicken wrap, halibut and a hot dog so they must have been good as well 😄
Pleasantly surprised. Great live edge tables. I had the bacon cheeseburger. Was larger. Thick. Couldn't finish my fries, there was so much. Clean, fresh inside. Some baked goods, too. I'd come out of my way to eat here again.

4 of us for lunch. Prices are reasonable. Ordered 2 chicken wraps (1 buffalo, 1 ranch), 1 large order of fish and chips. Wraps were decent. Fish and chips were mmmmmehhhh! Nothing like Mrs. H's so don't waste your time if you're going there for that. It was windy so in the indoor dining area was chilly and noisy. Person taking the orders was abrupt. Don't ask for anything more than what you ordered. We didn't get a side of coleslaw that we were supposed to get so the person was a bit miffed when we asked for one. Take note: THEY ONLY TAKE CASH. There is an ATM on site. If I go back to Bala, it will be Mrs. H's.
