Halibut House Fish & Chips

The fish and chips are top notch and all the staff are great, but the real shining star here is Karen. The minute you walk in the door you are greeted with her big smile, a mischievous glint in her eye and your first taste of her kind hearted humour. The way she works the room with her quick witty banter will have you feeling like you’re having dinner with a room full of your friends. If you haven’t met her before you might misjudge her when you hear her across the room, but one look at her big beaming smile and you will quickly realize she is just trying to brighten up everyone’s day. I have only met her twice and I can confidently say she has a big beautiful kind heart and truly cares about her customers dining experience. Everyone needs a Karen in their life! So go have some good food with some great people and have some laughs with one of the nicest people you will ever meet.

My children and I go there When we feel like eating out their food is amazing, the service is top-notch. There’s one waiter in particular she always knows what we order she’s always on point and super friendly! Food is amazing and staff is great!

I went to the Halibut House for some fish and chips with my boyfriend on Sunday December 14th, 2025 and had a pleasant experience starting with the service provided by Karen our waitress. She greeted us with such a big smile and just a friendly manner. The food was hot and arrived within a timely manner to our table. It was delicious and the price was reasonable for the quality and quantity. Karen was attentive to all our needs during the course of our meal and time at the restaurant and it was much appreciated and make our experience at the Halibut House a great one that we will be back soon for sure :)

We go here every weekend for breakfast and it's always perfect. As someone who worked in the industey for years as a manager, i am every waitress's nightmare. I am probably the pickiesg person ever and i expect phenominal service and we always get Karen when we go out and she checks every box. My food always comes out perfect, im acknowledged as soon as i walk in the door, my drinks are on the table immediately, karen knows my order and how picky i am amd the conversation is always great. Karen really goes put of herbway to One of our children has a sever allergy and they always accomodate to make sure he is also eating. My food is always perfect.

Best Fish and chips by far in Bowmanville. The service is what I truly enjoy the most. The staff are friendly, attentive and prompt. I always leave with a full belly and a full heart. Karen makes sure your experience is top notch everytime. 👌

We had the Haddock special and it was very dry. I've eaten at Halibut House in other parts of Durham. This by far was the driest I've had. I was disappointed ☹️

Considering that this is a fish & chips restaurant, thier breakfasts are awesome! Large portions and overall, delicious food. The vegetable omelette was particularly tasty. The only minor issue would be the home fries, a few bites hinted that they could have been cooked (softened) a little more. The service was friendly and welcoming as well, which made for a pleasant experience!

Was slow to visit this newcomer to area.
But very glad I did , chips are not overcooked , you can enjoy the potato taste. Fish is great with just enough batter. Ample parking . And located close to a great convenience store.
