The food was good for the most part but there were a couple of rolls with salmon and crab that tasted off and were left uneaten. They were also room temperature/warmish which could have led to this. The servers did their job well but did not seem very friendly. Overall it was a beautiful restaurant with only a couple issues during our meal.

Went to dinner with my boyfriend and got the all you can eat deal. Food was fine for the most part but halfway through the night boyfriend started feeling nauseous. When we got home, he ended up vomiting his entire meal. We suspect it was caused by the chicken he ate possibly being undercooked. Will not be returning to this location or even the restaurant itself. To top it all off the service was unpleasant and the waitresses would not speak to you. Felt very unwelcome.

The food at Makimono Bowmanville is consistently great, fresh, delicious, and well prepared, which is why I’ve returned a few times. However, the service really lets the experience down. The staff often come across as cold, unpleasant, and at times even rude. On several visits, I’ve felt rushed and not welcomed, which takes away from what could otherwise be an enjoyable dining experience. I genuinely hope they improve the service, as the food deserves better.

Variety is great and the rolls are a decent size but the maki rolls do not taste as fresh as they used to, specifically the salmon. I won’t be returning to this location.

Poor quality food which is a shame as this place used to be good. Watched my food sit on the counter for 5 minutes while the servers stood and chatted with one another. Fruit flies flying about definitely was not a pleasant experience.

This was the best sushi I have ever had the spicy crab rolls (it’s a pleasant spice I think if you don’t like spice you will like this) were I think the best thing there same with the sushi pizza the workers were so nice I will DEFINITELY a be coming back!

Found a massive bone in the salmon, the sushi was stale - rice was hard, the nori tasted off. We ate next to nothing, naturally we became nervous to chance it. When we nicely informed the wait staff, they removed our plates but still brought us the full bill. $113! Obviously I didn’t tip. We won’t be back. Only good thing, this location isn’t freezing like the others, but the dinner menu has little selection. Staff is nice and friendly, food is terrible.
Edit: dropped service from 3 stars to 0. A $50 dollar “credit” for $112 bill for food we hardly ate. Now this is just insulting. We won’t be back. So disappointing.

From the moment we arrived, the staff were cold and unfriendly, making for an unwelcoming atmosphere. We Felt rushed and like we were an inconvenience
The issues continued with the food. Everything presented was unappetizing and unappealing. I was particularly concerned about the raw sushi options, which looked unsanitary and not clean. There was a noticeable lack of the bright, fresh appearance you'd expect from properly prepared and handled sushi. Also the water tasted like bleach, we ordered tea and it looked as if they had ripped the tea bag open and removed some of the contents and tied it back up. All in all not a great experience, likely won't be going back

This was our second time here. Luckily our Daughter remembered and knew how to place the orders and what the food was.
We were a bit lost. The food is great and there is a good variety of dishes to choose from. We love everything about this place. It is a little septic and impersonal. It needs a little more warmth and an inviting atmosphere. Then it would be a 5+

Makimono has been our go to spot for Sushi.
Unfortunately after our take out order this time around we won’t be going back.
Bit into two rolls and both pieces had plastic wrappers in them. Called the restaurant and they offered a credit or a new freshly made order. I drove back to the restaurant, returned the plastic wrapper rolls and picked up the freshly made ones. Returned home and then my husband bit into one and it had something hard in it.
