The MOST amazing bakery ever!!! Everything Shelby makes is gorgeous to look at and even better to eat! Shelby has been baking cakes - and other treats - for us for 18yrs. Amazing!
My family and I took a trip to Canada this year to celebrate my little guy turning four — we are from Texas. I always look for a bakery in whatever state we’re visiting to make a cake, however this time it was a bit more difficult due to it being in a different country. The pay methods are different. I located The Cocoa Bomb via Google and started communicating with her; however, shortly after we started communicating she quit responding just out of nowhere, though it showed messages were being read. I was trying to figure out different ways I could pay the deposit as my banks did not offer the EMT-type payment that’s common in Canada. After about five messages were sent with no responses, I decided to move on to someone else as time was quickly fading and we were fast approaching the day I needed it by. BOY, AM I GLAD I DID!!
I found Sugar & Spice via Google as well. Shelby was incredibly responsive from day one. She accepted the EMT payment as well but also said I could pay an extra fee to use my credit card. No problem! Great! Let’s do it! I told her my banks in America didn’t offer the EMT option, so she had no issue with sending the invoice and me just paying the extra fee.
I told her what I wanted, though I knew it would be a different type of cake because my baby is a 4th of July baby (well, his birthday is the 3rd, but close enough ;)) So instead of Canada day, Americans celebrate Independence Day. I know there’s a lot of political bologna happening right now, but Shelby made me feel like a friend from the get-go and never issued a problem with creating what I had envisioned.
She also offered up multiple different recommendations when I asked her about any must-see attractions and best places to eat.
On top of her excellent and quick responses, when I got to Canada to drop off a few things for the cake, her and her husband welcomed us right in and were so friendly. We chatted a bit and their precious boy was playing around me like he already knew who I was. He reminded me so much of mine and they’re the same age! Anywho, after we finished chatting, we realized we were all heading into town for different reasons, so they let me follow them and then walked us to the restaurant we decided on based off their recommendation.
Strangers. Complete strangers from two different countries and they made me and my family feel so welcomed and like we weren’t strangers at all. Honestly, they were the kindest people and provided the best customer service I’ve ever received.
To end this review, I’d also like to say her time and attention to detail in her work is incredible. The flavor of everything was top tier. I ordered a cake and cupcakes and she was so kind to give a few extra cookies she had. They were tasty. Best sugar cookies we’ve ever had. My husband agrees! She put so much time in ensuring what I wanted was brought to life, and we couldn’t have asked for better. Just take a look!!

We originally tried to use a competitor (the cocoa bomb) who ended up having awful customer service. That led us to Sugar & Spice Bakery and we are SO glad we ended up using them instead!

Wow, what an amazing, delicious cake we ordered. Amazing attention to detail and created the most fudgiest, moist, decadent yet elegant cake I've ever had for my mother-in-laws birthday. I have ordered three times from Shelby now and each time her desserts have been fabulous! I ordered custom cookies for my baby shower, tarts for Mothers Day and a custom cake for my son’s baptism. Not only is everything beautiful but also delicious! Many people have now asked me where I order from because they are so impressed with her work. As well, Shelby is always so lovely to work with which is a huge bonus these days. I will gladly order again and again from Shelby whenever I need special desserts baked and decorated!
