Food was not very good. The burger was alright but we were the only people at the restaurant and it took quite awhile for things to get ready. On their breakfast plates they only include 1 slice of bread. Avocado toast didn't even had egg and cost 18$. Charging large city prices but providing really bad quality food just because they are the only restaurant close by is just disappointing.

First (and last) time visiting Calabogie Peaks to see the fall colours and have lunch at the Canthooks. Very limited paper menu, so not much selection. My husband order the large Caesar salad which was fairly priced at $16. However, it was surprisingly small and very bland. I ordered the hamburger and fries so we could share. The hamburger itself had zero flavour. The bun looked basic and overall flavour was mainly a soggy spinach taste with a mild cheese. I had a Pepsi and my husband had a coffee. We had to swat flies the entire time we ate. After waiting for our bill(we were the only ones there) we walked up to the bar to pay. Server was very friendly. Chef asked how the food was and we both said “Ok”. Honestly, it was way below our expectations.

Food less than stellar. Cold pasta and dried up overcooked chicken. Service ok, not great. Would not recommend.

Booked for dinner. Showed up and found no menu available. Just had a sheet of paper with 3 entree’s and four appetizers. Was going to leave but decided to stay. Ordered a drink.went to order dinner and found they were out of two appetizers we picked. That was the last straw. Paid 30 bucks for the two drinks and left. Very disappointed. Not sure why they have a 4+ star review. Note this restaurant recently changed owners. What might have been a good place to eat is now not. Their web page is out of date and the 4+ star reviews are not from this year 2025. Google should change out the old reviews so we get accurate recent reviews.

We recently celebrated my birthday dinner at Canthooks. The atmosphere was quaint and service was good, but it’s not the same without former owner, Iris. My husband tried to order a beer, but they were out of at least three different kinds due to a wedding the night before. Our food was good, but the portion was miniscule for the price. Both my husband and son (big guys) left hungry. My husband ordered fish and got only two small chicken nugget size pieces in his dish. My lasagna roll was good, but very small. Overall, dinner was very small, for a large price. You shouldn’t leave hungry for a dinner that price!

Overpriced & food was undercooked/cold (pickerel & ribs). Honestly, we should have sent it back but we were starving. The server/bartender was very friendly, so that was a positive!

There wasn't much choice on the menu and the place is like it's under reorganization, change of ownership etc. Check before coming to see if there is still life there.

Amazing food, and the loveliest service!
Our family of four all had the schnitzel last night. Two of us had it with spaetzle, (the little noodles) and two of us with fries, both served with some veggies and so delicious. We also enjoyed the jaeger sauce which is like a gravy that can be ordered on the side. Thank you Iris for the lovely service and amazing meal !
