High volume, fried chicken joint in a fairly weathered building, it was quite cold inside when we dined there at noon. Food was decent, price was very acceptable. Thank you!

These past couple weeks a new lady has been at the front taking orders and it has been awful. She always seems to be grumpy and projects an attitude toward customers. Darlene needs to be out front more because she is a customer favourite and always shines a positive attitude no matter the kind of day she’s had. With this new lady out front I’m not as motivated to spend my money here.

If you like Dixie Lee chicken, then go to this place. Because it's quite busy for walk in orders, it's better to phone your order in. The food is absolutely amazing and the prices are very good.

all I wanted fried chicken. said it was open till 8. and we get there at 655 and find out their closed. had another regular say he's not coming back and we won't be going back the owner inside waved and gave us a thumbs up will customers we're still inside eating. so went to subway instead. got 2 free cookies case the guy working at Subway felt bad we didn't get what we actually wanted. won't ever come back!!!

Terrible customer service. The cashier(Darlene) should not be allowed to work in the public. ALWAYS drinking on the job while handling food! Yells at customers when they try and order, mumbling under her breath complaining about everything- including her job, right to the customer’s. Worst place to take your family to eat. 0/10. You spend a small fortune to get abused by the cashier.

Absolutely the worst service I’ve ever had, in my life! Every single time I bring my family in here, Darlene Ford (the cashier) is absolutely intoxicated and extremely rude to everyone! She yells at customers, she mutters under her breath about the last customer she has served… Even started yelling at us customers about a coworker leaving and how she should to. She then asked if we wanted to come over the counter and try to do her job- she was standing in the corner saying this, as a line was at the cash waiting to order. As I was standing infront of her trying to order (tasting her vodka off her breath) I got confused on how many pieces I wanted in the bucket(because she wouldn’t stop mumbling rude things to me), so I turned around to glance at the sign again and she said- let me guess you turned around to talk about me or make faces about me.. I said no Darlene, I was just trying to see the board again. She replied with “Ya….., sure you were” with the rudest look on her face. I placed my order as she was still talking to herself about how she needs to leave and how she’s going to end up on Facebook and she doesn’t even care and a whole bunch of other nonsense. I still stood there and kept placing my order trying hard not to let her get to me. I turned and sat down with two other customers I was familiar with, we started talking about life and catching a bit… Darlene then leans around the customer at the cash(trying to place their order) and says- You guys are talking about me eh, can I help you with something (she’s very clearly drunk at this point) I said - No Darlene, we are just chatting. She then says - “Ya…. I’m sure you were, with a scrunched up dirty look face, again! I still ignored this because we all know her very well- She has a drinking problem(and drug problem) and gets very angry and obnoxious when intoxicated. This woman would not stop with me.. she just continued on and on. I was trying extremely hard not to let her get to me and for me to hold my temper (which was getting very hard at this point) the other customers around me were in complete shock about the way she was acting. The one customer says “she’s like this every time I come here” This isn’t right… We as customers give this establishment ALOT of money.. we shouldn’t have to be treated this way just to get a bucket of chicken for our families. Darlene went on like this for 10 mins(The customers that were there when this started, had left at this point and the store was full of “new” customers) I called my husband in, as she was still making me feel extremely uncomfortable…. My husband asked to speak to the manager, Darlene turned around fast and said “the manager about me” my husband said yes- you cannot talk to my wife or other customers like this Darlene, this isn’t right. She was so drunk she started yelling again, grabbing her things throwing things and walked out of the store, leaving her coworkers to pick up the pieces. The manager came out, we told him how we were treated and how I didn’t feel comfortable handing over $100 of our HARD EARNED MONEY to this establishment anymore. I asked for my money back and I will go elsewhere. The manager listened, apologized and handed our money back. Now at this time, all the food was done cooking, so he offered us our money back AND the food.. I’m not a mean person… I was insisting he keep the food because I felt like it wasn’t fare to HIM that I take that large sum of money back and he loses all this food as well (as he stated it would have to be thrown out- he can’t resell it). So I did what I thought was right and handed him BACK my money and said “If I have to take the food, please take my money back” I know every business in our small communities struggle, I couldn’t be so cruel by taking both things from his business. HOWEVER- This manager knows about her drinking problem and knows how she’s treating customers, and still allows her to work there. He has received numerous complaints about her and he chooses to do nothing about it. She drinks on the job and clearly alcohol makes her angry!

Darlene is a gem of a human being and if it weren't for her the entire experience would be lacking. The food is delicious, the tables are clean but the the face behind the counter is what keeps us coming back.

Chicken Kingdom is HILARIOUSLY out of place in 2025- it’s iconic.

Places like this just don’t exist anywhere else- it’s got to be the only privately owned fried chicken restaurant I’ve ever been to and the food is inarguably competitive with pop-eyes or KFC in terms of the fried chicken

The atmosphere is wild- I’m of an age where I remember when even McDonalds felt like this- a little microphone for the cashier to call back orders and being able to see the equipment they’re using hasn’t been updated in decades (if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it).

It’s not like this is the best chicken youve ever had in a cool fun retro atmosphere but it’s damn good chicken in a very old fashioned family-fast-food place and it’s respectable for sticking to that.

It’s a funny little relic from an almost forgotten time and it doesn’t need to try hard because it knows what it’s doing.
