Terrible ciders. Everything tasted rancid.

Brianne martin

I was very intrigued to try these ciders. Bought a few different kinds. The regular apple cider was pretty descent as was the caramel apple. The rest of them, were, foul. The cranberry was absolutely putrid, as was the black current. The one that takes the prize for the worst thing I've ever tasted is the ginger cider. It smelled, and tasted, like acetone. It was absolutely horrid. They should never be allowed to sell it. Please, do not waste your money there. We had a group of 6 trying them all at home, and all agreed. It's amazing someone made that, tasted it, and said yes, let's sell it.

very kind and helpful brewery employees that helped me decide what to get, letting me taste test, informing me about different products etc. will definitely be coming back for delicious and well priced wine/cider!

The prices on the website are lower than the store. When I asked the staff behind the cidery counter about this I was informed that the website hasn't been maintained since covid. There is approximately a $4 difference fyi.Wish I hadn't drove all that way.

The cider has a weird medicinal aftertaste. I regret not checking the reviews prior, tastes abhorrent and the lady did have bad customer service, it was an awkward experience.

I took 2 sips and poured it out.

Had blackcurrant and caramel apple.

We bought the black currant and caramel apple cider. Unfortunately both ciders did not suit our tastes. The black currant tastes like cough syrup.

We don't like to waste food but we couldn't drink these so dumped them. For the price I really expected better.

Went here today. I asked the cashier if they gave out samples. She said yes and showed me the sugar contents. I tried the late autumn cider and told her I liked that one and I'll get it but I also said I wanted to try the black currant as well to see if I wanted to get a bottle for my guest who doesn't like cider too sweet. She told me I wouldn't like it and she's not going to give me a sample. Just refused after I specifically asked if they gave samples. She was a very rude person with no customer skill and seem to like embarrassing me for no reason. I told her I wasn't interested in buying the ciders anymore. The rest of the places was awesome with their customer service and products just not 401 Cider Brewery. Sent a message on Facebook messenger and after a week it still have the same message of waiting for them to get back to me during business hours. Looks like they are out of business everyday. That also deserves a 0 star rating. Unfortunately it has to have a one star to review...definitely not worth even that!

All sweet ciders, rude service

I had a very disappointing experience with the service at the 401 cider brewery at the Big Apple. I asked the staff member at the counter whether they offered any dry ciders without added sugar. Instead of simply answering, he responded condescendingly, insisting that all ciders must contain added sugar in order to produce alcohol. When I mentioned that I’ve had dry ciders without sugar listed in the ingredients, he again dismissed me in a patronizing way, claiming he’s been brewing cider his whole life and knows better. I asked why he was being so rude and decided to leave. A quick online google search and Chat GPT confirmed what I already suspected - many dry ciders are indeed made without added sugar. Very upsetting interaction and I wouldn’t recommend buying cider from someone who treats customers this way, and doesn’t know you can make cider with no added sugar.

I bought two cans of cider. Caramel apple and cranberry. The caramel apple cider was the worst thing I have ever tasted. Just don’t do it, can’t even describe the offensive flavour. Unless it was an off batch cause the toilet has seen me a few times since drinking it. Scared to try the cranberry now 😵‍💫

Avoid this place when you see the miserable old woman who claims to be a manager. Extremely rude and unprofessional. Has no concept of customer service. If you see Todd though, stop by and say hi, great guy.

Worst cider I have tasted I'm my life!!

I bought 3 different flavors in a can. Honey, Caramel and Cranberry and they all tasted the same and they all had this awful rotten, moldy taste, not sure how else to describe it. At $3.85 a can, a total ripoff

Don't buy this stuff not worth your money

The Big Apple itself was a fun place to stop on a long drive and we enjoyed looking round. We bought some cans of blackcurrant cider and a bottle of caramel apple cider. Both were absolutely disgusting and got thrown away after a few mouthfuls. They just tasted like cheap nasty cider, no flavour of caramel or blackcurrant at all. Very disappointing .

We are big fans of the big Apple. Always stop and get pies or treats to come home. Tried the cider for the first time and it’s awful tasting. It tastes like it is rotten. Can’t even finish the glass. It’s a disappointment considering how good the rest of the Big Apple is.

If you like moonshine, then I highly recommend this mix of pure alcohol smelling and ethanol tasting cider. WHOOOWE! It will put some unwanted hair on your chest. It helps that they harvest their apples off the side of the 401, you may get the diesel notes I got. All in all, thank you 401 brewery you really opened my eyes, very wide and took my breath away (actually).

This is some of the worst cider I've ever tasted. I got the a 750mL bottle of strawberry cider and had to throw it out after only two sips. It tasted flat, sour, and rotten. The caramel apple cider was better. However, I would still rank it below generic grocery store cider like Somersby and Angry Orchard.
