Had yet another wonderful dinner tonight. The veal risotto is an old favourite, so it was such a treat to see it as today's special. Service was as exceptional as the food. Love this place!!
The food here is always incredible. Seasonal creative menus, fresh ingredients. Last night I had the deep fried mushrooms with chipotle mayo, best I’ve ever had and the short ribs with mashed potato and roasted root veg. So good. Fantastic service and intimate atmosphere make it memorable as well. For me I’d say it’s the best restaurant in Courtice, and definitely in the top 10 in Clarington and Durham.

Beautiful decor, great service and superb food!! Nice wine selection and menu options. I had the mushroom and goat cheese quiche with a yummy green salad and loved it 😋 My lunch mate had the chicken, bacon club with potato wedges-amazing!

Recently we had the pleasure of dining at the restaurant -- went for their Saturday Brunch. I had the English breakfast platter and my husband had the pemale eggs benny. Both were delicious. They have a variety of coffee specialties. I had the vanilla latte which was very good. Brunch is only served from 11am to 3pm on Saturday, so I would suggest a reservation if you plan arriving after 12. I felt was back in one of the restaurants in Quebec City regarding the decor. Will definitely be returning to try their dinner menu. They also have a take out section that I am planning to try.

Charming small bistro with nice cocktails, the quiche seems to be their special (yummy), had the chips on the side - great big wedges. Some baked goods and sandwiches to go. Call 24h ahead to order quiche to go (and customize it).

Although I lived in Durham Region for over 25 years I never made it to Bistro 238 until just recently. Stopping in for lunch with a friend and my husband, I was pleased by the cosy atmosphere though its location in a strip mall is not, at first glance, very desirable. I had the pear salad, with roasted pear, walnuts, and Stilton. And I added a chicken breast. Oh, my gosh! It was so delicious, and a cut above.
It is popular to add fruit into green salads, but it doesn’t always work, especially if the dressing is too sweet. The roasted pears were delicious and combined with the Stilton and nuts, absolutely fabulous. The dressing was tasty, but did not push itself forward. The chicken breast deserves its own celebration. Served with the skin on ( it was salted and crispy), it was a model of tasty tenderness. In general I’m not a big fan of chicken breast, and order it to provide protein if I’m hungry. In a salad I can cover its usual boring nature with dressing and other ingredients. But this chicken was an Angel on a bed of leaves! To tell the truth, I would have happily eaten the same again and left absolutely stuffed, but happy. As it was, we were pressed for time and had to dash without desert or coffee.
My husband had the chicken with avocado sandwich, and was very impressed with it and the excellent fries.

A lovely little spot in Courtice. The atmosphere is very cozy. The service was impeccable and we were checked on frequently.
The food was tasty, I had the ham, cheese, apple and dijon sandwich on sourdough. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be served warm but it was toasted (but cold) so the cheese and meat were cold too. Warm would have been more enjoyable. Either that or the bread shouldn't be toasted. It was still a lovely sandwich. My friend had the Chicken Caesar Parm sandwich which she thoroughly enjoyed.
They also have take away meals in a cooler up front. Very convenient if you're looking for a quick dinner. Shepherds pie, lasagna, salads and a few other options were available, as well as some lovely desserts, including a variety of butter tarts.

Although I have to admit, it may not be a very affordable option for everyone, especially in this economy, the food and staff were amazing. The portion sizes are good, hot food is served hot and cold food is served cold. The atmosphere was very chill and friendly, it was very clean, and even the way they pack up leftovers is thought out. I had a great experience☺️

Thoroughly enjoy the takeout options as the food is made fresh and well priced and serves well for folks looking for a quick healthy healthy.
The wide selection of quiches are our families davourites closely followed by the prime rib dinners.
Extremely generous during the holidays, something we will never forget.

I visited here in March with a small group for the harvest table served family style by Chef Simon. We had the incredible Beef Wellington dinner with some of the most delicious sides I’ve ever tasted. The homemade bread was incredible and the dessert was delicious and the perfect end to the meal. The service was quick and seamless and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. One of the best dinners I’ve ever had. Thanks for having us!

First time trying Bistro 238, and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I stopped in earlier this week and right from the start, I noticed the place had a bit of a British charm to it. As I walked up to the counter, I passed by a tempting display of desserts and pre-prepared meals like shepherd’s pie and Caesar salad—everything looked fresh and inviting.
The dining area was clean and full of greenery, which gave it a refreshing, cozy vibe. The music was playing at a low volume, which I appreciated—it made it easy to actually hear the person I was with without shouting over background noise.
The service was great. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience feel warm and welcoming.
I started with a mimosa. It was a little heavy on the alcohol compared to the juice, which definitely hit me faster than expected (I ended up ordering extra juice to balance it out—lesson learned!).
For my meal, I had the chicken, bacon, and avocado sandwich with a side of Caesar salad. Everything was fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavor. I’d absolutely order it again.
Even the washroom was worth noting—simple and clean, which adds to the overall experience.
Before leaving, I grabbed a raspberry tart to go, and once again, it didn’t disappoint.
If you’re ever passing through Courtice, Ontario, Bistro 238 is worth a stop. It’s a quality spot—definitely not your average pub-style place. You can tell there’s care in what they serve. Classy, fresh, and full of flavor.
