Dining at Quatrefoil was one of the most memorable restaurant experiences I've had to the start of 2026.
What stood out immediately was the consistency of service, not just at our table, but across the entire dining room. Every guest appeared to receive the same level of attentiveness, warmth, and precision. Timing between courses was seamless, and the overall flow of the evening felt effortless.
The food was exceptional. A black winter truffle potato gnocchi I had at the beginning of the evening was especially unforgettable, deeply comforting, refined, and layered with such thoughtful flavour that it stayed with me long after the meal. It was one of those rare dishes that makes you think about it again the next day.
My main course, the Cumbrae’s beef tenderloin, was beautifully prepared and another standout. You could really feel the care behind the ingredients and execution. Not to forget, a great example of sourcing high-quality local ingredients.
To finish, the brown butter cake. Absolutely outstanding. It was rich, comforting, and a perfect close to the experience.
What made the evening even more remarkable was the generosity of Head Chef Fraser McFarlane, who took the time to share insight into one of the dishes after our visit. That level of care and passion speaks volumes about the culture behind this restaurant.
Quatrefoil is clearly operating at an incredibly high level. It is thoughtful, refined, and deeply committed to both hospitality and craft. A truly special place. They have made a lifetime guest.

Wonderful experience. The location is convenient and the service was outstanding. The team made us feel very welcome, almost like being at home. The food is clearly prepared with care and thoughtful touches. The homemade bread was delicious, and every dish had a beautiful presentation. A truly lovely dining experience.

This review is long overdue- we stopped for dinner after dropping our daughter off at university.
The service, ambience, food, dessert and coffee - everything was exceptional.
Highly recommend.
We recently had a wonderful dining experience at Quatrefoil; the food was delightful! I highly recommend the haddock, which was cooked to perfection, though the splendid duck may BEET it out for some!
Above all else, the service was impeccable; thank you Courtney and the rest of the spiffingly dressed wait staff for the lovely experience. The Michelin recommendation is well deserved, and we look forward to our next visit!

This wasn’t our first time at Quatrefoil Restaurant, and once again it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. It’s the kind of place that feels consistently special, not just on first impression, and absolutely worthy of its Michelin star.
We went to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and the evening could not have been better. We started with the foie gras, followed by the sea scallops as an entrée, which were beautifully prepared and perfectly balanced. For mains, my husband chose the Brome Lake duck breast with roasted beet, braised red cabbage, confit duck leg beignet, bread sauce, and cider juice, rich, refined, and full of depth. I had the mushroom tart, featuring mushroom parfait, caramelized onion, Brussels sprout, glazed mushrooms, aged Gouda, and mustard vin blanc. Every element was thoughtful and harmonized so well.
Dessert was the jasmine mousse with cake and meringue, and the attention to detail truly stood out and the candle presentation for the birthday made the moment feel intimate and memorable.
What really sets Quatrefoil apart is their consistent focus on quality: seasonal ingredients, precise execution, and genuine care in every detail. The service, food, and atmosphere together create an experience that keeps us coming back. A true gem in Dundas

We celebrated my husbands 60th birthday here recently and had a fantastic experience.
As a group of 9, we enjoyed a private room; service was impeccable, and the food can only be described as phenomenal.
The pace was perfect, with enough time to enjoy our meals but not too much to get impatient waiting for the next course.
We tried a variety of different items on the menu, and all agreed the flavours and presentation were top notch. We tried the scallops, beef tartar, halibut, duck breast, and beef tenderloin - all mouth watering. The Chocolate Paris Brest for dessert stole my heart, and I am not even a dessert person.
This is certainly a special occasion place and we will be back for sure.

Tartare was whatever. Husband and I asked for our steaks to be medium, they came rare. If it was cooked as requested would have been better as the sauce on the steak was good but for the price you expect perfection and it wasn’t achieved.

I’m disappointed to have to write this, as I was truly excited going into the evening. The night began on a very high note. The scallop was one of the best dishes I’ve ever tasted, cooked to absolute perfection. Our waiter initially did a wonderful job, guiding us through the wine pairing and offering a thoughtful, engaging introduction to the meal.
The second course, mushroom cappelletti, was equally impressive. It was outstanding—I could have happily licked the plate.
Unfortunately, after this course, both the service and the overall experience noticeably declined. The tuna that followed was slightly overcooked and lacked flavor. We were left waiting for our wine pairing to the point where we had to make eye contact with the bar to get attention. Eventually, another server approached us and asked, “I guess you want your pairing?”—an odd and disappointing question given that we had clearly opted for the tasting menu with wine pairings.
The duck course was then dropped at the table without any explanation of the dish. I’m still not sure what components were included, but the flavor was overwhelmingly curry-forward and not pleasant on the palate. Once again, we had to wait for our wine pairing.
For a restaurant aiming to deliver a five-star dining experience, the inconsistency throughout the evening was extremely disappointing—especially considering it was my mother’s birthday. While the food itself showed moments of excellence, the service failed to match it. For me, the experience fell apart after the second course, and that was truly disheartening.
I left feeling very let down.

Went for family dinner at Quatrefoil, a Michelin recommended French restaurant in Hamilton. Brian, our server made sure that all our individual needs were catered to.
The food was delicious and the service was exceptional. They grow all the herbs used for cooking in their own backyard. Vegetables, meats and seafood are from local farms/ranches. The fair trade coffee vendor is all female owned and its taste is very smooth.
We ordered:
Salt Baked Beetroot & Butter Lettuce Salad
Heirloom carrot, whipped goat cheese, beet crisp, apple vinaigrette
Field Mushroom Soup
Gouda crumb, sherry cream, sage & rosemary oil
Sea Scallops
Parsnip, pear, summer sausage, hazelnut, verjus butter sauce
Hand Cut Steak Tartare
Kenko pear, Jerusalem artichoke, porcini aioli, crispy shallot, Gouda & truffle popover
Foie Gras Torchon
Ontario quince, mustard seed, verjus jelly, puffed grains, toasted brioche
Wild Caught BC Halibut
Roasted onion, sweet potato cake, turnip, ginger vin blanc

We live in rural Ontario and love to source good eating outside of the larger urban centres. Last night at Quatrefoil we experienced a top-notch setting, service and gastronomy. Our very informed server started us off by guiding us towards delicious cocktails. First courses of scallops and foie gras captured all the necessary subtlety of their star ingredients and were plated with austere artistry. Mains of west coast halibut and duck were perefctly cooked, again with an approach that highlighted inherent flavours without the fog of too much salt, fat or cloying seasoning. Desert, chocolate focussed, was, in a word - fun. We also enjoyed a bottle of wine and left this gorgeous atmosphere feeling like we had stepped into and then out of one of the finest dining experiences we have had in recent years. Although we found the meal to be a great value the prices may shock some. Five stars.

A taste of elegance in the town of Dundas. A limited menu with thoughtfully sourced and prepared dishes. Although the proteins were front and center, the accompaniment really stole the show. The heritage building and dining room were cozy…only complaint would be the music was a touch loud, but festive for the holiday season. Professional staff, we were celebrating a few occasions and they really went above and beyond to recognize. Quatrefoil deserves all the accolades they receive and we look to returning soon.

We celebrated our 9 year anniversary here and the entire experience was incredible. We only told the hostess that we were celebrating and they went out of their way to communicate this to our server. Our server not only congratulated us but gave us small glasses of non-alcoholic wine on the house after commenting that we don't drink alcohol. Our server and everyone else was incredibly warm and welcoming, the service was really wonderful. Of course the food was beyond incredible, but the service really made it a wonderful experience.
