For our 20th anniversary, we had dinner at the Elora Mill and chose the multi-course celebration tasting menu with wine and beverage pairings. We had a great table at the window overlooking the stunning Elora Gorge.

The food was fantastic. We shared the seafood and regular menus, and both were high quality and very tasty. The dishes were excellent, from the marinated strawberries and duck terrine to the superb mussels and scallops, tender venison, exquisite ravioli, and finally, the chocolate cake and sorbet. Everything was delicious.

Rick, the sommelier, was fabulous and a personal highlight! His selections were excellent and paired perfectly with the food. The other staff members were friendly and tried their best, but they seemed to lack the training and professional skills one would expect at this price point. Perhaps I am overly critical, having studied in this field for years myself, but my expectations are high at this level.

At the beginning, the service felt rushed, and we had to ask them to slow down. An experience like this should not be a race. For instance, our food arrived before our aperitif, and the starter was served before we had finished the amuse-bouche. After we commented on this, they did adjust the pace.

Overall, it was a very pleasant evening.

P.s. Check the restrooms more regularly for cleaning.

Stumbled into Elora—what a treat of a historic town. Tucked along the river is the Elora Mill, both hotel and restaurant. Guests aren’t really encouraged to wander through the hotel, but we made our way to the restaurant patio for a drink and it was worth it. Beautiful setting, polished establishment. Coming from Alberta, we have the mountains, but this was every bit as charming as some of our high-end hotels back home. Just drinks today, but service was spot on, and several of the staff knew the history of the property—including the gentleman at the front gate keeping an eye on who comes and goes.

We’ve eaten had a lot of Michelin star restaurants.
The food, the service, the somelier where comparable to any of the best restaurants we’ve eaten in.
Thank you so much for a great evening and a special thank you to Donna our server who made the experience of our anniversary celebration so special.

Very disappointing experience. Manager Shay was rude, dismissive, and completely unhelpful—she has no idea how to manage seating or treat customers. The food was overpriced for what you get; nothing special, and even the carrots served weren’t washed or peeled properly. On top of that, I have health issues and needed closer parking, but security refused to let us use the lot because of a wedding, forcing us to park far away. When we left, there were still plenty of empty spots, which made it even more frustrating. After driving all the way from Toronto, this visit was a total waste of time and money.

Very disappointed with the experience overall. Even though the food was really good, I had requested a nice table by the window, as my wife are celebrating our 10 years together. They put us in a corner with a view towards a construction that was terrible. To rub salt on the wound, a table that sat a little after us got the nice spot in the window along complimentary bubbles for their date.

I'm a chef in Toronto, have been in this industry for a while now, and the lack of communication between the staff really threw me off. I had even put a special note in my reservation for that. Jordyn was amazing, I know it was not her fault

We had reserved a window table a week in advance, but upon arrival, Shay, the restaurant manager, refused to seat us at the window despite several vacant tables. After driving a long distance to enjoy lunch with my family, we were denied seating without any valid explanation. Only a few minutes after we left, the staff called to offer us a table—as if playing with their guests. The manager’s conduct was extremely rude, unprofessional, and incompetent. Overall, it was a very disappointing and disrespectful experience.

The view is beautiful. However, our server (I don’t want to mention her name) was very disappointing! She wasn’t focused. Got our orders wrong. The food was very bland and tasteless. We were overcharged and I told our server. She said she’s going to look into it, but never did. We had a birthday and I didn’t want to make a big deal. So we overpaid and got underserved. Disappointing.

I booked a table a week in advance and specifically requested window seating. After driving two hours from Toronto, my family and I were given the worst seats in the restaurant. When I reminded staff about the window seating note in my reservation, I was told it was “first come, first serve.” That made no sense—how could I possibly know who arrives before or after me when I booked days in advance?

I asked to speak with the manager, Shay, who was shockingly unwelcoming and dismissive. Instead of trying to help, she contradicted herself, first saying it was first-come-first-serve, then changing her explanation to “whoever gets it when lunch starts at noon,” which was equally unreasonable. Even when I politely asked for any table in the window area—not necessarily right at the glass—she flat-out refused, acting as though accommodating us was impossible.

What shocked me most was her behavior afterward. Before I even left the restaurant, I received a notification that Shay had canceled my reservation—a completely unprofessional and unnecessary act. Ten minutes later, I got a call saying a window table was now ready. Clearly, it was possible all along if she had chosen to manage properly.

For a manager, Shay displayed zero customer service skills and no ability to handle reservations. A basic understanding of turnover (guests leaving after an hour, tables becoming available, etc.) would have solved the issue. Instead, she soured what was meant to be a special day for my family.

To make matters worse, when we asked for tissues, we were given damp cocktail napkins from the bar—two napkins for three people. Even after asking again, we still ended up with just two. That small detail alone spoke volumes about the lack of care and professionalism here.

In short: poor management, poor service, and disappointing food. Shay should not be in a managerial position if this is how she treats paying customers. Absolutely not recommending this place.

What a disappointment. The service was great, but the food was absolutely trash. The menu is slim and uninspired—we asked for a Caesar salad and were told it’s only on the kids’ menu. Seriously?

The “fish for two” was pickerel, easily one of the cheapest, least impressive options out there, yet they charge over $70 for it. Total rip-off. I ordered the “large” rigatoni pasta, which was laughably small—barely enough for one person—and it came out pale and bland, more like overcooked noodles tossed in cream than anything resembling a proper red sauce.

We also heard they give bread, but apparently it only comes after you order a main. At these ridiculous prices, they can’t even serve bread without conditions? Give me a break.

This place hides behind its view of the falls to justify overpriced, mediocre food. It’s style over substance, and frankly, I feel like a fool for wasting a weekend dinner here with my family and kids. The ambiance is nice, but if you actually care about food, skip Elora Mill—you’ll walk away hungry, disappointed, and lighter in the wallet.

I always enjoy visiting the picturesque Historic Village of Elora, Ontario. It has a warm Old World charm that I love.

The Elora Mill hotel is located right on the Grand River, with a restaurant overlooking the waterfall. We recently stopped in for a quick bite and coffee. It was so relaxing, we had to psych ourselves up to leave.

Their kitchen, with a glass wall, allows you to view what's going on and it's impressively spacious and clean. It was bigger than my 3-bedroom condo! And much cleaner!

Unfortunately, it was drizzling when we left so we didn't have a chance to explore more of the area. My friends, visiting from Vancouver, will have to come back again. Maybe they'll stay at the Elora Mill Hotel...
