I must have gone to a different Algonquin Cafe the the rest of these reviewers....we paid $60 for lunch for 2 people and couldn't bring ourselves to finish what we ordered. The au jus for the brisket dip was unpalatable. What little taste it had reminded me of wet dog and it had an acrid/burnt aftertaste. The brisket sandwich was reheated fatty brisket on a grilled bun, and you barely get enough to consider it a sandwich. The "ULTIMATE" Reuben for $15 is fine, certainly not ultimate. It's very small and they don't have thousand Island dressing, which is weird if you offer a Reuben. The fries were over cooked and dry, which would have been fine if the gravy had any redeeming qualities. Coleslaw was average and same with the smoked beans.We were out of town all weekend and this was the most expensive thing we had...and it was sandwiches.

Overall the food was good and considering that it was one of the few places open on family day, we were glad the Cafe was open. Unfortunately when we arrived one of the employees was rude and it's to understand nobody wants to be working in a holiday, but like a customer coming from far away we didn't appreciate the rude welcoming.Falks should remember that in the hospitality business, service is everything.
