Food is nothing to get excited about but the service is appalling.
10 minutes to get a menu, 20 minutes still no drinks. When tea and coffee arrives, no cream or milk, another 10 minutes after we remind our server. Why are menus and condiments already on the table???.
As for the general service quality, I've seen glaciers move faster than the waiting staff here.
Perhaps the clientele are all old age pensioners, happy to take 3 hours for a mediocre meal but if you have kids under 30 years old, you may lose the will to live.
This is our 3rd or 4th visit, always hoping the last time was an aberration. Apparently not, it never fails to disappoint.
Excellent Chinese food

Went into Kemptville to try this restaurant out, driving about 25 minutes. This restaurant was busy on a Friday night, but there were plenty of places to sit, and I felt comfortable with the atmosphere. The service was great and friendly, and our food was prepared fairly quickly and served hot. We were a party of 4, and 3 of us wanted some Chinese food; the fourth wanted pizza. I was looking for something good to eat, and they have a very good selection, which means I'll need to come back soon and try more of it. Even if it's a far drive, this definitely gets a 5-star approval!

Every time I called, someone answered and helped. You don't see that much. Thanks again.

We ordered the Beef & Mushroom dish and I was so impressed. I will admit I forgot to ask what kind of Mushroom they used in their dish and I was concerned it would be Portobello Mushrooms (definitely not my thing). Instead I was thrilled to note that they use fresh, large cremini (possibly) that busted with flavour. So yummy! The beef is always so tender that it melts in your mouth.
You never know what kind of vegetables you get in the dishes and was very satisfied with the addition of white onions, green onions and celery. Also the gravy wasn't overly salty, which can be a problem for me sometimes nor was it too spicy (for sensitive tummies).
All in all an excellent dish that I would order again and again. PS Their Beef & Peppers is equally outstanding. 👏👍🇨🇦

For take out we got broccoli beef, shrimp chow mein, crispy won tons, spring roll, egg roll. The broccoli beef was great. The shrimp chow mein was 95% bean sprouts with a few shrimp and no actual noodles - just a little baggy of fried noodles on the side. Very disappointed. The egg roll was good and the spring roll was good. Crispy won tons were fine.
We will try them 1 more time with other dishes.

All good.
I ordered chicken fried rice and 6 egg rolls. When I attempted to pay they explained they don't except debit. I explained that I only have my debit card on me and she pointed me to the ATM that they have in the restaurant. The order came to $25. I was hoping to have leftovers but the portion size of the rice was beyond unacceptable. I was expecting a tray like the last time I ordered from them, but instead I was giving a single portion stuffed inside a wonton soup container. I feel completely ripped off and I will never order from them again.

Great restaurant, great service and great food. Everytime we are in the area we pop in for a bite to eat. Yesterday we did take out baked lasagnes. Amazing flavour and huge portion. 1 helping fed myself and 2 kids. Their Chinese food and soup of the days are always a solid option as well. Caesar salads are always fresh and amazing too! Have yet to have a bad dish from them.

Atmosphere: it's your typical diner. Comfortable & clean. Not too loud. My Grampa introduced me to this restaurant MANY years ago. It was & is a favourite.
Service: excellent! If ordering to go, be prepared to get it quickly. 😀
Food: I can't visit Kemptville without picking up their Chinese food to take home. It is absolutely delicious! I live in Smiths Falls & only order Chinese food from here. As do my in-laws.

Had lunch with fellow old-timers/car enthusiasts. Food was very good, no complaints from anyone. I ordered Chinese and couldn't finish it all!

We have been customers of the Five Star for over 30 years and we have ordered for the last time.
In the past year I have returned home three times with takeout food I was unable to eat. Three. I should have known better after the second, I know, but we were loyal customers.
In the last year I have thrown away rancid spring rolls, almond guy ding full of lumps of congealed corn starch and now, finally, I return home to discover burnt & inedible fried rice.
This time I called, and explained that I couldn’t eat the dish and the women on the phone was very nice and said bring it back and we’ll refund you.
I don’t live in town so this meant a drive in the next day. I tried a few bites of the other dishes, it was dinner hour, I was hungry, and I now had no food. I gave up, as the burnt smell had ruined the whole plate. I scraped the food in the garbage. My mistake.
When my husband returned to the Five Star the next day with the combo platter, the woman behind the counter examined it and said I had eaten some food and she would, grudgingly, give us half our money back.
And then she literally said THIS to my husband “and this had better not happen again.”
No apology for selling us inedible food, just incredibly rude treatment of a repeat customer of over 30 years.
She’s doesn’t need to worry, it will absolutely never happen again.

Visiting relatives in .,the area and went here for Chinese food. I’m from a small town of Waterford. There is a Chinese restaurant named Yins and for years was a go to place . Since I’ve moved I’ve been trying to find someplace that does good chicken fried rice and this was it! Excellent fried rice and wonderful chicken balls. Had an egg roll which was also very good. If you want very good Chinese , this is the place.
