A most pleasant and welcoming addition to King City…with a very promising start. King City, while the population is very diverse, suffers from a lack of “good” Asian restaurants. When it opened, Kenji partially filled the void…or so it seemed when Kenji first opened. We have been frequent customers over the course of the past 18 months or so. Sometime around April of 2023 we had lunch and noted, what seemed, some sort of decline but couldn’t put our fingers on it. In July of 2023, with a couple visits in between, we opted to try again. The customer service and attentiveness remain good and the sushi is still fresh with nice taste and appetizing presentation. The sushi chefs do a good job with the preparation. This, however, is where it seems that the attraction is petering out and the once bright and cheery, very clean and welcoming restaurant may be “past its sell by date”. Of course, this is only the opinion of two, now former, “regular customers”. Today we ordered two Sushi Sets – the Deluxe and the Maki C – along with a single can of Sapporo as a refreshment. It is at this point that negative thoughts enter the mind. As an “old-fashioned” beer drinker, I always add salt to my beer. I asked for salt and yes, they have it in a salt shaker … that appeared (and felt) like it had been sitting on the counter since opening day. It was sticky and visibly dirty which only made us question what the rest of the utensils looked like, not to mention, just how clean (or not) it is behind the scenes? When reaching to pour the soy sauce (for the dipping of the sushi) even the container on the table was (in addition to the salt shaker) … not so clean. Then, we realized one of the employees was sitting at the front table, playing on his phone, again causing thoughts of “somebody really doesn’t care” going through our heads. Impressions are everything and little things count. Again, just the opinions of two of us…Kenji needs to up their game, take a hose to everything and get it clean, bright and cheery like it was in the beginning. Do something with the four empty tables at the entry and don’t leave employees playing on there phone sitting there. Keep the food…it’s pretty darn good! Overall, we were pretty disappointed that it didn't work out. We can’t say we won’t be back; maybe will try again in a few months but for now, a 25-minute drive to a more satisfying experience is our choice.

We live in Nobleton and have had sushi from numerous spots in Vaughan. Nothing beats Kenji quality of freshness and taste. Our guests always ask where we order from! It’s delicious and has been our go to since they opened. The staff are very friendly and appreciative of the business
