Hippos is a true local staple, perfect for those who live in the area or are up at the cottage. Located right on the water, it offers almost entirely outdoor terrace seating, which makes for an unbeatable atmosphere.
It’s always busy, so finding a table can sometimes be a challenge, but that’s part of its lively charm. The menu is classic casual fare, think well-done, slightly greasy comfort food that fits perfectly with the setting.
You don’t really come here just for the food, though. You come for the fun, relaxed vibe and the one-of-a-kind lakeside experience. Hippos has been serving both locals and newcomers for years, and it continues to be a go-to spot for a laid-back day on the water.

The food was terrible. The fries were cold and the fish was rubbery. It is also very expensive for the quality of the food. You order yourself and go and pick it up and get to sit by the lake so that part was nice but after reading all the reviews and hearing good things from friends, we were expecting great things. Unfortunately, we left disappointed and aren’t likely to return.

This place has a super location on the waterfront. Does smell of seaweed though. The food was nice however only scores 3 because I had the shrimp basket and had food poisoning unfortunately. However my family had chicken and said it was lovely. Friendly service. Parking across the road.

We enjoyed our visit to Hippos, we have made coming to Hippos with our family an annual event while on holidays in the Dunnville area and have not been disappointed !!!

A very nice setup here. Big patio with walkup bar for beer, coolers, no mixed drinks unless it comes in a can. This could be a 5 star rating but the food is sub par. We had burger, onion rings, perch dinner, coconut shrimp dinner, chicken fingers and jalepeno poppers. Most was overcooked other than my burger which needed more grilling plus its frozen. I love the atmosphere here but if i come back to eat, im just getting a hot dog and beer. Oh but the fries are fresh cut so thumbs up to that.

Been here a couple times, and have enjoyed our visit. Food is good and hot, end enjoyed a drink while waiting for our meals. Love the atmosphere and the breeze you get from the lake.
