We dropped in because the food pictures looked good and we wanted Indian food and were in the area. The place was empty. It was 6:15 pm on a Friday. Someone came out and asked if we had a reservation, and I said no. She said she had a reservation at 6:30 and they would take precedence for orders. I asked if it was a big group and she no, it was for 4 people. 4 people and you can’t handle 2 more people as walk ins? We left, and we will not be back. We live not far away and could have been more regular customers. Too bad. Be warned they cannot accommodate walk ins.

We wanted authentic mangalorean food for our house party and Ancilla did not dissappoint! The food was the talk of our gathering, everything was fresh, tasty, and authentic! Highly recommend her chicken roce curry, Tendli chana, fish koliwada and hot and fresh sannas.

I loved my experience here. It was like going to her home and she made something just for you. It was just us and she asked us spice level and if we’re craving anything and she made us two stunning fresh dishes rich in flavour. Both her and I were surprised when me and my husband ate every bite as the portions were quite large :)

We have been eating at Ancila's for more than 10 years. My family and friends all enjoy her authentic home cooking style. It is our go to place to entertain our out of town visitors. The problem is that she can only serve so many people per night. It was pain to see her turned away customers. I suggested her to use a food processor to prepare the vegetables and spices ahead. She said "no" with a smile. She insisted that why her dishes taste and smell good because she only cuts the vegetables and spices just before cooking. We just have to learn to work with her capacity. Order ahead of time to ensure she can take us. I tried some famous Indian restaurants in London and GTA, they are not at any level near Ancila's. Ancila is not only a good cook and she is a very charitable person. We are lucky to have her, cooking for us like our Mama.
Forgot to mention that Ancila's cooks and alter her recipe to suit my dietary restrictions. So many Indian restaurants cannot do that because everything is pre-make. I ate at my Indian friends' place, they are not tasty as Ancila's. People who complained about her pricing for a bowl of curry sauce. I will pay for the price for Ancila's curry sauce. 😋
Dietary restrictions: She can cook gluten free, diary free or any allergens and not destroying the favour of the dish. Just tell her, she will do whatever she can.
Kid-friendliness: Ancila welcomes family. My grandson from Germany loves her garlic naan.

I ate here multiple times in 2014 and it was fantastic then. Glad to see it is still in operation. Now that I am back in the area, i will certainly return.

A one woman show who cooks fresh indian cuisine from the moment you order. She does orders country style (Asks about spice level and preference in flavors, and goes from there) but she also has some menu lists on her website in case you prefer that. She is so friendly and her restaurant is mostly empty most days during the time I was there; so it's very peaceful. Absolutely wonderful decor with plants everywhere and drawings from her kids when they were young on the walls. I order Paneer in a special mild sauce which came in a giant pot meant for 2 people with garlic naan slices and a big plate of rice. Best meal of my life I've never been more satisfied with a dine in meal. The total after tax was $31 dollars and it was worth every penny. I will be returning whenever I'm in the area. It's right next to the GO station.
Truly a hidden gem.
Vegetarian options: She asks if you're vegetarian and provides vegetarian options
Kid-friendliness: She has artwork made by her kids when they were young all across one of the walls inside. Kids meals available.

We got the chicken biryani, butter chicken, palak paneer and naan it was the best Indian food I ever had, I realized the Indian food i ate before this place was so processed and disgusting . She makes it fresh and is served hot. The food preparation time is worth it !! 10/10 recommend

This is the type of Indian restaurant my parents would take our family to growing up on the southside of the city. Not a very polished setting but the cook is a master of her craft. My friend and I came here for a weekday lunch so it was empty, didn't seem like she was expecting anyone at the time. Interior could use a bit of love. There was no menu, we just ordered old country style. Told her what we were feeling and she made it happen. The curry portions were pretty nice compared to other restaurants, naans were near perfect. Price was reasonable too. The food was downright delicious and the service was fantastic. I also left something of value here and I got it back safely so shoutout to the owner for being a good human.
I’ve been here a few times, usually for my parents’ birthdays as they love Indian food but they’re introverts who prefer dining in quiet peace.
The food is customized to your liking and spice preference, and Ancila makes a variety of both vegetarian and meat dishes. She took into account that we are Sri Lankan and changed the flavours to suit our tastes.
I always get the paneer takatak, but I’ve also tried the shahi paneer and paneer makhani and everything is delicious.
The naan sizes are too small in my opinion so it’s better to get rice with your curry.
Prepare for a longer wait (30-40 mins) as it’s only Ancila cooking in the kitchen, I believe. It’s worth the wait - the food is so rich and flavourful but I never feel heavy or sick after eating.
Also always call before going — sometimes they’re closed or not accepting tables even if they’re open according to google.

Came here on a Reddit suggestion, and so glad that we did. A really unique dining experience , where there’s no set menu but you’ll definitely get a meal that satisfies your craving.
Recommend calling ahead to book your spot. We’ll be coming back for sure
I do highly recommend this family restaurant. Today my daughter and I were very pleased being there, and communicating with Ms. Ancila. The food was freshly cooked and very delicious. Our big surprise was the spiritual library there (you could borrow books and share with friends). One of a kind , unforgettable experience for us! Thank you!

I can't recommend enough. I've been here twice now and the service and food are unmatched. Note, you do need a reservation, as they need to ensure what you order is top quality and fresh. Long story short, not to be missed!
