This is an over hyped dosa place. We decided to try this restaurant after we heard many people talk so positively about it.
Turns out to be a basic dosa place - onion rava was average. Spring vegetable dosa was over filled - felt like I was having only a salad.
Badam halwa had a tinge of beans flavor in it.
Service is good and efficient.

Guru Lakshmi remains one of the premier South Indian restaurants in the Mississauga area. We thoroughly enjoyed the Dosa, Idli, and Vada, all of which were very tasty. While the Uttapam was flavorful, it was unfortunately a bit overcooked. Additionally, the chutneys could use a slight improvement to match the high quality of the main dishes. Still, a solid choice for authentic flavors!

Suggest making a reservation. Ordered below items
Idly vada combo : idly was soft and sambhar was really nice. Medu vada was crisp but the dough inside was not as flavourful.
Plain dosa : decent, the sambhar was again really nice
Rava dosa : although buttery and crispy, dint really feel like the batter was purely rava. The net like texture was not there. Assuming they mix the rava batter with something else to make the dosa cook faster.
Service was quick, music could have been slightly lowered so i can converse with my family.
Overall ok probably overrated. Am i keen to come back again? Probably maybe.
Request to swap plastic plates with steel plates someday.

This is a great place to enjoy vegetarian Indian food, and the prices are very affordable. I highly recommend the dosa—plain or with cheese, it’s absolutely delicious. To avoid waiting for a table, I suggest making a reservation.

Guru Lakshmi is a solid spot for South Indian cuisine, and it mostly lived up to the hype. I’ve had slightly better back home, but this came pretty close.
We started with the rasam, which had great flavor. Personally, I’d prefer it served in a cup or soup bowl rather than a steel bowl — just a familiar preference from back home.
We ordered the Paneer Dosa, Mysore Bhaji Dosa, and Paneer Uttapam.
The Paneer Dosa was excellent, with well-balanced masala.
For the uttapam, we requested it crispy but realized later that the regular version would’ve been more to our taste.
The Dahi Wada was very delicious and definitely a highlight.
Overall, it was a good experience. They could improve the way rasam is served, but the flavors were great. Living in Mississauga, I can see why people feel nostalgic about this place.

I’ve visited Gurulaxmi Restaurant many times, but this is the first time I ordered the perfect dosa for my taste — all thanks to Satish, our wonderful server.
I told him I wanted something crispy and spicy, and he immediately understood. He recommended the Spicy Mysore Masala Paper Dosa, and it was exactly what I was looking for — beautifully crisp, flavourful, with the perfect level of spice, and paired with delicious aloo masala.
Thank you so much, Satish, for listening so carefully and suggesting the dosa that matched my preferences so perfectly. Your attention to detail and genuine willingness to help made the experience truly special.
Satish is truly an asset to this restaurant. Highly appreciate his service! 🌟

Update Dec 2025- went back after a long time and guess what the service is still very cold especially the restrictions on who can enter but now even the food is so average I begin to wonder how long will they carry on this scene. It seems I will have to decline invites to this place as well
Finally got down to it. To be fair the food is good and the service is quick but that all comes later.
The cold reception you get at the entrance is a real put off. Door is locked you gotta ring yourself in😡😡. If you are a party of say 4 and only 3 have come you have to wait till the others join🥴🥴.
Also people are very cold when answering questions.
Ok you are doing well and you are busy but don’t forget the reason why you are.
The food you serve is only as good as the service is if they are not in tandem…..go figure.
I shy away from places who give me the feeling they don’t need my business. No sir thank you.

We ordered Mysore Dosa and cut dosa, along with spicy wada sambar, the taste was good. We liked Badam Halwa the most. Recommended to reserve and go.

I’m honestly shocked and disgusted. I went to Guru Lukshmi today absolutely starving and excited to eat dosa — this place is listed in the Michelin Guide, so you expect top-quality food and hygiene. Instead, I found a bee/bug inside my meal.
I’ve attached the photos because this is unbelievable.
I was so hungry and looking forward to this meal, but the moment I saw the insect on my plate, my appetite disappeared. For a restaurant with this reputation, this is unacceptable and honestly disturbing.
Just a warning to anyone planning to visit — please be careful. If something like this made it to my plate, I can’t imagine what’s going on in the kitchen. I definitely will not be returning.

Hi Guru Lukshmi Management,
Thank you for responding, but your message doesn’t address the actual issue. Regardless of the season or inspections, the reality is simple: there was an insect in the food served to us, and that is a serious health concern.
Voiding the bill does not make this situation disappear. We never asked for the bill to be voided — we were more than willing to pay for our meal, and your employee Azaad can confirm that. This was never about money; it was about hygiene and safety. We would happily pay double for clean, properly handled food.
Instead of acknowledging the contamination itself, the response focused on reputation and theory. What we needed was accountability and a clear explanation of how this happened and how you will prevent it in the future.
Thank you.

One of the best places to have dosa.
The dosa didn't meet our expectations. That authentic taste was missing and the sambar was very watery.
