Tried Guru Lukshmi and ordered Medhu Vada, Idly, Poori Masala, Mysore Bhaji Masala Dosa, Mango Shake, Coffee, and Rava Kesari.

The Vada, Idly, and Poori were excellent — fresh, and tasty. Mango Shake and Coffee were decent, nothing extraordinary. The Mysore Bhaji Masala Dosa had green peppers in the masala, which felt a bit unusual to me (personal preference — others might enjoy it).

The ambiance is great with ample seating, but it’s best to book in advance as the place gets busy. Overall, a very good experience and worth a visit if you enjoy South Indian food.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was unacceptable. The service too fast like they treat people like eat and go, and the staff seemed uninterested in helping customers. The food quality was far below expectations the dosa was soggy and too much oily above all we ordered mild food and they served us the very spicy and once we complaint server never bothered about our comments about our complaint and above all the sambar has no taste.

Taste is amazing. At first glance it was a very busy restaurant and i have to book in advance else waiting time is around 1 hour or more. But it worth the taste. Also staff were super friendly. I share a concern and they hear it and took necessary steps to help out.

Undoubtedly the finest South Indian food I have had. I live in NY and this restaurant is far superior to any South Indian Restaurant. Soma is an incredible server. Most people should definitely try this restaurant

I visited this restaurant for the first time, and unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing.

1. Long wait: Despite having a reservation, I had to wait nearly 1.5 hours to be seated and served, which was frustrating.

2. Overpriced menu: The prices felt unreasonable compared to the portion sizes and quality. For example, two samosas cost $6.65 + tax, which is quite steep.

3. Overhyped dishes: I ordered their “signature” dosa expecting something special, but it was just a regular-sized dosa with nothing remarkable about it.

4. Hygiene concerns: The biggest letdown was finding hair in my food — this is unacceptable and raises serious concerns about kitchen hygiene.

Overall, this place is simply wasting people’s valuable time and money by serving overpriced and unhygienic food. It feels overhyped, poorly managed, and not worth the visit.

Suggestion for management: Please focus on improving basic hygiene in the kitchen, reducing wait times, and ensuring that the food justifies the price and hype. Only then will customers feel that their time and money are well spent.

We had eaten there last week, and the line up was huge during dinner time. We had a reservation, and we were waiting in line to tell the guy our names however other people started to come in and pass us. There needs to be control and an understanding that there's a line and everybody's waiting whether you have reservation or not. It's a sense of respect and I felt extremely disrespected, by the owner and their staff. Probably my last time going.

Everything about the experience was nearly perfect — the food was delicious, the ambiance was great, and the staff were generally attentive. However, one downside was the feeling of being rushed. It seemed like they were eager for us to finish quickly, likely due to the line of people waiting to be seated. While I understand the demand, it did take away a bit from the otherwise enjoyable dining experience. A little more breathing room would have made it truly exceptional.

One of the worst restaurants when it comes to scheduling bookings. I had reserved a dinner table for 9:00 PM as we were coming from Niagara with guests from another country. The staff called to confirm the booking, and I clearly informed them that we would arrive around 9:15 PM. We reached at 9:13, only to be told that our table had already been given to someone else. We then had to wait 40 minutes to get another table—on a Tuesday, no less.

I understand that the restaurant has been popular for years, but basic common sense and professionalism should not be lacking. The food is good, but the staff is extremely rude and poorly trained, showing no manners. Such behavior only damages the reputation of your restaurant and brings a bad name to your origin country

Gurulakshmi delivers well on the food front - the dishes are prepared with good quality ingredients and the flavors are satisfying. You can tell there's care put into the cooking, which makes the meal enjoyable from a culinary standpoint.
However, the dining experience falls short when it comes to service and hospitality. The staff, both at the front office during seating and the servers throughout the meal, lack the warmth and welcoming attitude that would elevate the overall experience. While they get the job done, there's a noticeable absence of the pleasant, friendly service that makes you feel truly welcomed as a guest. This impacts the overall atmosphere and makes what could be a great dining experience feel somewhat impersonal.
The restaurant fills up, so calling ahead is necessary to secure a table, especially during peak dining hours.
Gurulakshmi has the foundation of a good restaurant with its quality food, but the lackluster service and unwelcoming staff attitude prevent it from reaching its full potential. If the management could focus on training staff to be more hospitable and engaging, this could easily become a standout dining destination.
