Potluck Caribbean Cuisine

The food here is delicious, it’s the best Jamaican food that I have tasted in Ontario other than a place in Orillia. I have had their jerk chicken, the oxtail, their soups and their breakfast items. All delicious. I am yet to try their fish but I am sure that will be tasty as well. I crave their food!

The staff are always friendly. I saw someone note that you can’t pay by credit card, but I have always used my VISA credit card here to pay. Credit, debit or cash. Maybe it was the type of credit card for that person.

Food tastes delicious... However, they barely give you much of the meat! They fill up most of the takeout container with rice! The older thin lady who usually works in the back is really moody and mean when she's at the front dealing with customers but the other staff are nice. You can't pay by credit card either and their prices have increased a lot.

I understand not liking customers coming into a store close to closing time, but at least have some human decency. Came in 5 minutes before close, and again I wasn’t expecting the highest quality food, but I found plastic wrap and hair in my food. On top of that the two people that were there at the front were rude when I came in. I’m sure the food is redeemable midday, but do NOT come here when it’s closing time because food quality is -1/10

I frequent this restaurant often but usually buy the jerk chicken which is very tasty. Today I ordered a side of rice and peas, boneless curried chicken and a small curried goat with rice and peas. I paid $7 for the side of rice and it wasn’t even full! The curried goat was all bones with a few pieces of meat. I’m very disappointed! If I’m paying $15-20 for curried goat then I expect there to be goat meat not just bones.

A few years ago, I visited this restaurant and did not have the best experience. Being Jamaican myself I know what to look for when trying foods boasting a Jamaican background. The oxtail was not it. It was chewy and hard and inedible. As such I wrote this place off.

Fast forward a year or so later, I was asked by a friend to pop in and order him some food....everything I asked for was unavailable and this was at lunch time.

Fast forward to present day, my family is visiting from out of town and wanted some Jamaican food. The restaurant has since undergone renovations and to be fair I told them to check it out and judge for themselves.

My SIL ordered one jerk chicken dinner with rice and peas/steamed veggies for my dad. A fried chicken dinner w/ rice and peas for hubby and an ackee and saltfish with boiled dumplings for my brother.

Pros:
My brother enjoyed his meal. He questioned why the dumplings were pre-cut. I suggested this is done in case people are on the road and want to quickly eat their food. It's actually pretty good they do this ??

My dad enjoyed his jerk chicken meal. My dad is very old school and prefers to eat at home. For him to say it was ok/good that is a big deal.

Hubby enjoyed the fried chicken.

Cons:
Hubby did not enjoy the gravy that accompanied the rice and peas.

I tried it to ensure he wasn't just being picky but he was right. The gravy had no flavour whatsoever. As such he only ate the chicken and nothing else.

Portion wise everyone was pleased with this aspect. Price wise it is on par for the quantity of food you receive.

The following day I wasn't feeling well and woke up to a container or beef soup. I'm always iffy around soups from restaurants but, this I consumed and it was delicious. It was well seasoned, there was a decent portion of provision/spinners and two decent pieces of beef.

I would definitely try this again.

Overall a much more positive experience food wise from my past experiences ?

Parking: Restaurant is located in an outdoor mall so plenty of free parking.

Wheelchair accessibility: There are accessible spots available and cut outs to accommodate mobility chairs/scooters etc.

Best carribean fooood everrrrr!

Just had their jerk chicken with rice and pease. Always consistent. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and browned. The rice was spot on just the way I like it with the coconut flavour.
Potluck is the best in town.

Price has gone up and they've gotten cheap with portions. It's now close to 15 dollars for 3 scraps of bone filled chicken and rice. More seriously, they have now started pre-entering a tip BEFORE they pass the machine to you. BEWARE. Wont be returning.
