Watan Kabob at Matheson has been one of my go-to spots whenever I'm in the mood for something hearty, flavorful, and satisfying. If you've never had Afghan food before, this place is a great introduction — portions are generous, the meat is grilled to perfection, and the spice blend hits just right without overwhelming you.

Their chicken and beef koobideh are consistently solid. Juicy, well-seasoned, and served over a bed of fragrant rice with that signature hint of cardamom. The naan? Huge, warm, and fresh out of the tandoor — definitely don’t skip it. I usually go for the Watan Kabob Platter when I’m starving; it’s a little bit of everything and always worth it.

Service is quick but not overly personal — they’re efficient, especially during lunch rush, but don’t expect too much chit-chat. It’s more of a grab-your-food-and-enjoy kind of vibe, which honestly works for a place like this. The dining area is clean and well-kept, but nothing fancy. It's more about the food than the atmosphere.

Pricing is fair considering the portion sizes. You won’t leave hungry, that’s for sure. And if you’ve got leftovers, they still taste great the next day.

If I had to nitpick, parking can be a bit chaotic during peak hours, and sometimes the line gets long — but that’s also a sign that the food is doing something right.

Overall, Watan Kabob Matheson delivers consistently good Afghan comfort food. Nothing over the top, just solid flavors and portions that don’t disappoint. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

Very mediocre kabobs. Ordered a doogh water to
milk ration was way off toasted like somebody gave me a glass of water and spilt some milk inside by accident. Washrooms are also not very clean. They do however Praise belonging to God have a secluded prayer area otherwise it would have been a 2 stars.

Terrible customer service. The staff are rude, unapproachable, and don’t even bother to smile or listen. Instead of helping, they make you feel like you’re a burden.

Absolutely unacceptable — I will never come back here and I don’t recommend this place to anyone.

Terrible Customer Service – Ongoing Problem

I’ve been coming here for years with my family, but the customer service has only gotten worse over time. This isn’t just a one-time issue—it’s happened on multiple occasions, and I’ve finally had enough.

Most recently, we were helped by a young Indian woman with brown hair, and the experience was incredibly disappointing. She was rude, dismissive, and spoke in a rushed, unclear manner that made it difficult to communicate. It felt like we were being treated as a burden rather than valued customers.

It’s honestly shocking that after all these years of loyal visits, the service has gone downhill so badly. We were there as a family, expecting a decent experience, but walked away completely frustrated.

Unless they seriously improve their staff’s attitude and professionalism, I can’t see myself returning—nor would I recommend this place to anyone else.

We had an amazing experience at Watan Kabob! The food was fresh, flavorful, and the portions were Ok.

We ordered the Sultani Kabob Dinner and swapped in a Chaplee Kabob for just an extra $0.50 such a great option and totally worth it. The kabobs were juicy, perfectly seasoned, and grilled to perfection.

We also tried the Tandoori Wazeri, and it was absolutely delicious tender, smoky, and packed with flavour. The rice, salad, and naan on the side completed the meal beautifully.

Overall, excellent service, clean presentation, and food that truly delivers on taste. Definitely a go-to spot for authentic Afghan kabobs!

I have tried Watan Kabob a few times and always found their food consistent in both taste and quality. Portions, flavor and price are all reasonable, with a good authentic Afghan taste. Their lamb shank, half chicken, quabli rice and beef koftas are recommended. However, the veggie dishes (curries) are a bit off, so I wouldn’t recommend them unless someone really wants to try. The restaurant also offers nice seating space for families. My only recommendation would be to improve the Chapli Kabob, as it’s a bit dry, thin and over-fried (always) — it has potential to be much better. Overall, a solid spot for Afghan cuisine.
