While driving through Mount Forest, we checked out The Old Hound on the main street —and it absolutely lived up to the hype! This charming little shop is a dream for ice cream lovers, offering a wide selection of Ontario-made favourites like London Dairy, Kawartha, and Shaw’s—three of our all-time go-to brands.
The service was fantastic—friendly, patient, and thoughtful. When we ordered two scoops in one cone, the staff member even asked which flavour we wanted on the bottom. It’s the little things that make a big difference!
Inside, the shop is adorable, with a giant ice cream cone statue and a few cozy spots to sit and enjoy your treat. There’s also plenty of street parking, making it an easy stop whether you’re passing through or planning a visit.
With tons of flavours to choose from, huge portions, and very reasonable prices, The Old Hound is a must-visit for anyone with a sweet tooth. We’ll definitely be back!

Came to this ice cream place both nights while I was in town because it’s that good! There are so many flavors to choose from. The portions are huge and delicious, making up for the slightly high prices. It was packed both times we came, yet the staff were still friendly and fast.

Really great ice cream and excellent prices, however, depending on staff that’s working depends on their rules and regulations about dogs entering the building and being given free ice cream. Maybe staff can all be on same page about this for the future.

Best ice cream parlour knowledgeable staff and the girls are super nice. Loves me some anything banana ice cream and they haves it. We go every weekend (Sunday) when we go home from the cottage, and they DO NOT disappoint. Too boot they have country music videos playing. ! WHOOOWHOOOO!!!!

So many flavours; so little time. Great ice cream and friendly service. It's Kawartha ice cream, so you know it's high quality. And staff sure know how to stack a cone - no hollow ice cream scoops here. The pictures of fantasy ice cream cones drawn by children that decorate the wall are always entertaining.
