Halibut House Fish and Chips

Very surprised that my halibut looked like pre-frozen Captain Highliner. I’m not sure the fries are even fresh cut anymore. $25 is a lot for something that appears to be pre-battered pre-frozen.

I ate here 2 days in a row while on lunch break from work. It was empty inside so service was fast both days. It was clean the food portion sizes were decent and the food was delicious. The food definitely has changed for the better since its original opening years ago. I’ll definitely come back.

Ordered for pickup. 2 halibut dinners. One with fries the other with onion rings. Fries a bit undercooked. Overall food was good.

So called manager rude and disrespectful to customers on phone and this was Sunday Aug 31 2025 hangs up on a customer then when call back forgets to hang up and listen to them yelling and talking about me on the phone without realizing they are still on. Also said she would cook my meal herself but I would have to pay double for it

Sad change from the last time I ate here. The fish soup was 1/2 a bowl of cold soup clearly from the bottom of the bowl and should have been called potato soup not fish soup. Glass of icewater ended up being a luke warm glass of tap water. The request for crispy well done fish and chips were soggy and came 2-3 minutes after the soup arrived. No lemon with the fish but the tartar sauce was good. No wonder there was no one else eating in the place. Sad fall from grace. The service was also a big let down. And this place was so good last year. Oh well, won't be stopping there again.

Servers should be nice to people of all cultures- not just white people. The white customers were treated with respect and kindness whereas people of colour were given little no attention, respect nor proper service.

Great food, nice clean location, looks freshly-ish renovated.. I felt like the lady who served us didn't really want to be at work... She wasnt unpleasant at all, just not very engaging. I'd still absolutely go back though!

We have avoided this restaurant since their opening 5 years ago. After our visit this afternoon for lunch, I have no idea why. We thoroughly enjoyed their haddock fish and chip special! Very good value for the price and fish and chips were absolutely as good as I have had at any of the other shops in town! We will definitely be back!

Had the Haddock, sweet potato fries, and coleslaw. Daughter had kids meal hamburger.

It is very hard to get halibut in North Wellington. This was a day trip, and luckily, I stopped for lunch. Excellent service. We were seated and drink orders taken immediately. Our orders were taken at that time and was in 15 minutes. We had a delicious lunch. Highly recommended.
